    The future of Empyrean Aussies

Here's two b*tches we've decided to keep from the litter our Group 1 winner Salsa produced. 11 weeks old in these photos.

    Here's Chutney.

And here's the red merle girl, who has yet to be named, although we may go with Empyrean Stonehaven Bayshore's Plum Pretty. Call name Plum.

    Thanks!

Here's two of my 2 yo b*tches at the huge Canfield, OH show today. Both in the Specials ring. Harper, the red merle, took Breed here, which was the 2nd biggest entry in the show with multiple top ranked Aussies in the breed ring. The red tri is her full-sister in blood, Vivian.

Well Harper, my red merle girl, took a Group 2 at the Lexington cluster yesterday and today she won the Herding Group!

Judge gave her a real hard look during Best in Show judging but it went to the outstanding standard poodle London, owned by a friend of mine. London is a top 5 dog and is certainly one to watch come Eukanuba and Westminster this year.

That is so cool!! Congratulations! They are both beautiful.

    Thanks.

Five of the top 10 dogs in the country are at the show, including the number 1 and number 2 dogs. Lots of class there.

Well Harper won the Herding group again today, over 3 of the top 10 herding dogs in the country!

    Awesome!!! She is really gorgeous.

How old are they now Jas? Do they show for a long time?

Re: The future of Empyrean Aussies

Harper is two and a half. Most specials are in that 3-6 year range. She has some maturing to do but she's looking great. I think this weekend puts her in the top 6 or 7 in the breed in All Breed points.

    Here's her win photos.

Re: The future of Empyrean Aussies

She's lovely. Congratulations! The static shots are lovely, but the movement shots show conformation excellence.

It's so nice to see that nowadays females can compete with males and win. I well remember back to a time when a female had to be twice as nice as a male and be professionally handled in order to get just an occasional piece of the group. One of our proudest achievements back in the 70's (when males ruled), we had a Top 10 breeder, owner, handled female. There were only 6 females in the decade of the 70's that won
    that distinction in our breed.

    Continued success to Team Harper.

Lovely looking dog, she has a beautiful topline. Much continued success, and would be great if you got to Westminster- seems to be on track.

Re: The future of Empyrean Aussies

I am in love! All of them are lovely, but man am I a sucker for merles. Just stunning dogs.

What sort of plans do you have for miss Harper in the time to come? I have no idea how dog showing works, nor what sort of animals make it to he shows they air on TV (and we don't even see breed/group at those), but whatever you do, I wish you the best of luck!
And listening to some big out a' town jasper, hearing him tell about horse-race gamblin'.
Not a wholesome trottin' race, no, but a race where they sit down right on a horse!

Re: The future of Empyrean Aussies

She is pointed to all the big dances-- National Dog Show (the one on tv during Thanksgiving), Eukanuba and Westminster.

I think next year will be the year we can make her number 1, since she just started showing in the breed ring in April, but she's done amazing and has been loved by some top, top judges.

Bal, it's funny because quite a few breeds are really b*tch heavy right now. Dobies and Aussies, in particular, have mostly b*tches in the top 10 in their breeds.

I know the top Ridgeback is also a b*tch right now because her ad was next to ours in the Chronicle.

Absolutely stunning dogs, Jas. Those are some of the nicest Aussies I've ever seen.

The Labs are *****-heavy right now, too. The current #1 Lab in Canada right now is a lovely black *****. I hope one day I can hit the jackpot with a top dog. (I think I am sitting on one right now, but who knows. She's a year and a half, so plenty of maturing to come. We'll see!)

Things have changed over the ensuing decades since the 70's and 80's. Little by little females are making their mark in the show ring as well as the whelping box.

When I judged at the Ridgeback Specialty Show in 2010, the 6 top awards were given to females. I didn't even realize it until well after the judging was completed.

BTW, were you there at the Lexington shows to see your girl strut her stuff?

Re: The future of Empyrean Aussies

We shot down for one day. I hadn't seen her since March so it was nice to watch her do her thing. Plus we had to hand off a young male to the handler.

He's going to be something too, I think. His name is SunnyRain's Empire Maker "Knox". He will be a year old on the 10th. He was 2nd in the 6-9 Sweeps at the National Specialty in an absolutely horrible awkward stage. He also went WD out of the 6-9 class over the Best of Breed winner from Cruft's this year.
