Bobcat Jim....Highest 2 Y.O. EQ. Fig Loses Jockey In 9nd Race..See What Happens

Bobcat Jim, an ultra impressive winner in his 1st race (received a rarely reached 109 Equibase Firster Figure), lost his jockey in the 9th race today at Delaware Park. The 1-5 son of Sharp Humor out of a Deputy Minister mare is a Toby Keith Juvenile to watch!!...WATCH WHAT HAPPENED TODAY..

Well, its rare to see a riderless horse want to continue on competitively, but remember he had a big weight advantage at that point. Four pounds to a length? He should have "won" by 25!
I ran marathons. I saw the Taj Mahal by moonlight. I drove Highway 1 in a convertible. I petted Zenyatta.

That is really a shame that he lost the rider. Definitely some talent there.

Poor colt. You have to keep the jockey on your back to get a picture.

Many riderless horses win races and win by many more lengths..I was impressed by his ability to run around the track and look for Caraballo so they can run again. I thought folks might want to see a really nice physical specimen of a 2 year old..Could one summize that he might not have trouble rating in upcoming stakes races? He looked like he came out of it in good shape..

Best race by a TB w/o jockey...

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UN2bG90Qxdc

Gander actually galloped out to the turn than turned around and "turned himself in to the outrider!

As shown above, Gander proved in the 2002 edition of the Saratoga Breeders Cup Handicap, that you don't always need a jockey to guide you to win a race! After a stumble at the start the left Gander's Jockey Mike Smith on the dirt, Gander recovered and began to run his race. As he raced along the track, you should note that he did not swerve or impact the other horses too much. In such a professional manner, he just did what he knew how to do: RUN!!!

As they past the grandstand for the first time, Gander is seen in the back of the pack between horses I believe. By the time they round the first turn onto the backside, however, he has raced up into second position.

Down the backside he stalks leader Abreeze staying about 1-2 lengths off of him. Around the far turn, Gander moves up on the outside of Abreeze, and actually surpasses him at this point. At the top of the stretch, you can hear the announcer saying "Abreeze with the uncontested lead" which is comical because at this point, our riderless wonder is a good 2 lengths ahead of him!

As they come down the stretch, an even funnier comment is as Evening Attire makes him move from second to pass leader Abreeze, the announcer says, "Gander could be a bit of a worry for him."

In the video it is hard to tell just how many lengths Gander "won" by, but it seems to be at least 3 or 4. Obviously he was disqualified from the race as he lost his rider, but it should be noted his pace and professionalism. He was a classy horse!

I know it's bad, but I love seeing a horse going on with it and winning. If I saw that right, he even switched leads on his own! VERY impressive and a total pro on the track! (Bonus points that he is by Sharp Humor, always liked him!)

I'm waiting for the 1st derby futures prices to appear..I profiled and identified about 15 horses as of this week and Bobcat Jim is one of them..

This one's still my favorite. His name was Disco's Son, I believe. Loses the rider at the start, seems like he's going to drop out of it twice, but comes back to stalk. In the stretch drive he tries to go to the rail, then tries to split horses, and finally goes to the outside, switches leads by himself, and wins in a photo.

It is always neat to see horses that know and love their job so much that they WANT to compete, WANT to win - with or without a rider ;-) He ran quite well considering. Definitely one to watch - hopefully next time he won't stumble at the start and lose the jock though!

Wow, he looked like he was running with an invisible jock. He literally ran the race as if a jockey was on him telling him when to relax, make his move, and then go!

That one is great! I know it's not suppose to be funny when this stuff happens, but how can you not laugh when the horse continues on like no jock, no problem! The guys in the background were hilarious! lol

    Blu-

Dollar Bill who ran in the Derby died? I thought you were joking...No that's very sad. I was googling up to find a story about him and I when I didn't, I thought you were referring to Bobcat Jim winning without the jock, hence a dead dollar bill (dead bet)..I followed that horse for 2 years...

I'm so sorry for getting you upset..

I have a close attachment to all horses, especially those who run in the derby. I spend a year watching them as 2 Year old prospects turn into 3 year old stars..To me all derby horses are stars...

Good that you came in with a clarification. I too, was wondering why you found Dollar Bill's death so funny.

    I'm glad you explained that.

When I went to pick up a hard copy of Saturdays Racing Form (I buy hard copy for the weekend), I passed a dead squirrel and a cat and was depressed.
