2yo winner for Smarty! Res Judicata broke his maiden at first asking at PEN -- in a 5F MSW. Bred and owned by Patricia Chapman; trained by John Servis.

The Jonathan Sheppard-trained Smarts (o/o Art Show by Out of Place, and one of Smarty's rare gray/roans) had one start as a 2yo, in November at DEL, finishing 4th. Then went off radar. He came back today in a MSW at PID. He totally blew the break, spotting the entire field 2-3 lengths. But starting really rolling late. Was kind of all over the place in the stretch, but got up for the win.
Also note that Isn't He Clever will go in the Jersey Shore Stakes at MTH tomorrow -- and is the mild M/L favorite, despite "declining form" (in the words of BH).

Here's the replay of Smarts win; he's #3. Good-looking gelding too.

...and another WINNER-Call Me Jones at Hollywood tonight!YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Not a bad debut today for 3yo Nikkis Smartypants (o/o Scarlet Slipper by Red Ransom). Had some trouble early, had to steady; ran all out late to get up for 2nd. This was a MSW sprint at Woodbine. She might like turf better.

I was looking up something else when I found out Devil In Disguise has been nominated for the BC Derby (G3) on September 9th.
(And I was ill and it was pouring cats and dogs last time he ran, so I didn't get pictures. I'll try next time.)
Sipan won again in Peru. This is his 3rd win in his last 4 starts!

That's okay about the pics, Rainyday. Since Mario G. rode him in his recent stakes win, there were lots of photos available online. He is a handsome guy.
And, even before his stakes win, his trainer was proclaiming him the best horse in training at Hastings. So I kind of figured he'd be pointed at the BC Derby.

Isn't He Clever -- fourth in Monmouth stakes on 7/14.
(maybe needed a race)
Couple of tidbits.
Follow the Leader is nominated for the $50K Kitten's Joy Stakes at Colonial on Saturday: 8.5F on turf. I wouldn't count on him going in this one, but it's an indicator, I think, they are looking for minor stakes races for him.
5yo Larehaan (o/o Wendy Vaala by Dayjur) was exported to the UK, made only one start, and then pretty much dropped out of view. Until Kevin found this on a sales page from Scotland. As you can see from the photos, she has turned into a lovely, lovely mare, and, if that page is remotely accurate, has been trained to be a versatile sports horse. Here's hoping she finds a loving home.
