Thread: Phipps horses

    Phipps horses

As we begin to think about the horses being split between Keeneland and the rest of the stable returning to Belmont, it seemed an appropriate time to start this thread for those interested in the family horses.

The horses have wintered well in Florida and there have been some encouraging results on the track....

    Re: Phipps horses

I am interested. Especially in the 3 year old fillies Tia, Protesting, Streaker, and an unraced filly named Snooze. If Protesting is like her big brother maybe a stake at Keeneland will be in the cards?

For those interested in former Phipps horses, Easing Along and Manipulator(full to Smuggler) had juvenile grade one winners this past weekend in Argentina.

Shame Easing Along wasn't given much of a chance here, but I suppose his full brother in Maryland hasn't set the world on fire up here.

I read somewhere (?) that Easing Along looked horrible when he arrived at Claiborne. Sounded like he either didn't travel well, or didn't do well in quarantine. Does anyone know if this was actually the case?

    Thanks...

Was it Easing Along who had stifle (or some kind of hind end issue) that gave him some trouble when he was over there at Claiborne? I can't remember now if that was him or another stallion.

    Re: Phipps horses

Coming into the season and with an eye on the broodmare band, it was quite important for some of the fillies to improve on their performances. The three older fillies are all guaranteed a place at Claiborne, either through their pedigrees or race records.

Distinctively is the least accomplished but remains a personal favorite and is lightly raced. This filly will be well suited by a route of ground and ran nicely on a speed favoring track on her seasonal debut. Consequence had a really encouraging spring last year and was in really good shape heading into the Saratoga meet. Unfortunately, the wet weather dashed her hopes of further black type and she has something to prove this year. She remains an exciting, although headstrong filly and is certainly the best from her dam. Persistently made a pleasing seasonal debut but was then exposed by slow early fractions in her subsequent effort at Gulfstream Park. A faster pace in some of the NY stakes races will better suit her running style and the Ladies Handicap remains a possibility for her next race.

The 3yo fillies are a lightly raced group and there are some nice unraced types to look forward too. Protesting was exposed as a bit one paced on the Gulfstream track but ran nicely in both of her efforts. She is well suited by the polytrack and will hopefully run well at the upcoming Keeneland meet. Streaker will hopefully continue to develop into a really nice filly and Snooze is also worthy of a mention. So, fingers crossed.

The Janney colors have had a lot of success with the fillies in recent years. Quiet Harbor has continued her winning ways and Forest Trail will travel to Keeneland after a pleasing seasonal debut. The 3yo filly Hit It Rich has been working progressively and makes her debut on saturday.

The 4yo colt Spanish Art runs in a couple of hours.

Thank you so much, Cladan. I've felt a little lost the last few months.

    Re: Phipps horses

Anything on Awesome? She's a Mineshaft filly out of a Storm Cat mare who ran very well in her debut. Thanks!
