Break Up the Game is entered later this week at Churchill for new connections, so he has clearly been sold out of the fold.

Perhaps this is mostly for Cladan, but for anyone else in the know, how are these private sales conducted? I mean one can't simply pick up the phone and make an offer to Mr. Phipps after all.

Also, despite some criticism of Shug here and elsewhere, after private sales I have seen performance generally drop with new connections, not improve. Was hoping Break Up the Game would end up a stakes runner for the barn but he clearly struggled at NW 2X level with 5-straight out of the money finishes.

    Why not?

That's a very good point, Chumma. I honestly can't recall a single horse that ran better after leaving Shug. I feel for Mr. Phipps in that he has spent SO much $ breeding to the best and all things considered we did much better in the Private Account/"Mr P" days in terms of having quality runners in the barn annually.

Maybe Secret Savings... that was a while ago though.

Well, I'm pretty sure he's not listed for one...

    Re: Phipps horses

If someone is in the game, they can get in contact with somebody to relay the information. There are bloodstock agencies who do just this. For a Phipps horse, I wouldn't think it would be much harder than contacting Claiborne. They handle the sales of Phipps horses that sell at auction and they board the Phipps horses.

Reload breezed 3F yesterday 36.58 just as he did for his debut 3-weeks ago. He is the morning live favorite in the 2nd at Belmont today over three promising colts from Kimmel, Kenneally and McLaughlin. Not an easy group.

Woohoo - he won - very nice race...

Didn't get to watch the race, but from the chart sounds like Hymn Book didn't have a chance after getting bumped, squeezed, having to go wide, etc. Darn.....

At the top of the stretch I thought he had a better chance of running last then being anywhere near the leaders. He made a really good (as he always does) and was beaten less the 2 lengths.

Reload got a BSF of 85 for his win yesterday.

Of the 5 remaining Phipps yearlings without names, the following have apparently been submitted to the Jockey Club for approval:

    Mesmerized (F. Medaglia D'Oro x Daydreaming)
Place of Honor (F. First Samurai x My Flag)
    Le Reve (C. Giant's Causeway x Dancinginmydreams)

There are also unnamed fillies by Street Cry x Boca Grande and Unbridled's Song x Storm Flag Flying.

Mesmerized and Le Reve were rejected. Place of Honor was accepted.

    Two running tomorrow at Belmont:
South Shore (by Arch) - race 2 - MSW
Abaco (o/o Cay Cay)- race 5 - MSW

Raise the Flag (o/o My Flag) is an AE in race 5.

Beat the Drums and Decoder breezed yesterday - at Belmont now though, rather than Niall Brennan's.

Darn - it was sloppy and looked like South Shore didn't like it at all:
South Shore - 6th (and last)
    Abaco - 3rd
    Raise the Flag - scratched

Sure hope the weather drys up for the Belmont...

Imagining just easily won an Allowance on the turf at Belmont. Looked very nice, especially as it was his first race back since November...

I thought the place-horse looked like he had plenty in the tank at the top of the stretch, so it was nice to see Imagining run him down as easily as he did. Decent time too.

Shug's going to have a fun time trying to keep Imagining, Boisterous, Data Link, Air Support and Point of Entry separated for the rest of the year.

Also noticed the stat that Shug has won 6 graded stakes with 6 different runners so far in 2012, a number which puts him 3rd in the nation behind only Messrs. Pletcher and Baffert.

    Re: Phipps horses

Do the Phipps have a particular connection to SW Florida? There are quite a few horses with names connected to the area like Caxambas Pass, Matlacha Pass, Pine Island, Captiva Pass, Boca Grande.

If anyone can think of others, I'd like to add them to the list.

    Thanks,
