I never made it to Bowie but I do remember my father tuning in the Crosley 5-tube superheterodyne radio receiver to snag the results from Long Island out of a Maryland radio station.
Bowie and Narragansett were sometimes a tough pull for quick results on the radio.

my dad used to take me out of school one day a year to go to bowie. plus, we went on weekends. on a good day, we'd head strait to ctown. those were the days. i still have a keychain giveaway on the last day filled w/sand from the track (supposedly). maryland racing used to kick azz!

I spent many days with my dad at Bowie.We ran horses there alot.The first horse that i ever worked out of the gate was at Bowie.We had a horse in that day and got there early to work a young horse out of the gate and the jock didn't show so my dad said i had to do it,boy was i nervous.
Also remember there was and old guy we all knew as the chicken man,he sold the best chicken sandwich.Two pieces of white bread and a huge chicken breast between the bread.
