Re: The Guineas
I tipped him in a couple of posts in the main section. I know Irish Stamp was keen on him too. He won really well and looks a top class miler in the making.

Re: The Guineas
Dubawi seems to be carrying on the Dubai M. legacy quite well.

Re: The Guineas
After tipping him this was a follow up post on the main board
What I find strange is that Makfi is a Shadwell homebred that was sold for only 26,000 guineas in October about a month before making his debut.
He's bred in the purple, his dam is a half sister to Alhaarth and to the dam of Derby third Aqaleem. I am not sure who he was in training with before he was sold.
Hopefully after tomorrow both the ex-trainer (whom ever he maybe?) and Angus Gold have a bit of explaining to do to my favourite owner Sheikh Hamdan.
It has transpired that he was with Marcus Tregoning, it's most weird that he was part of the Shadwell dispersal.

Re: The Guineas
Tregoning is a joker, always has been, one of racing mysteries why he continues to obtain and underperform with the Shadwell horses.

I wouldn't go that far regarding Tregoning, I wouldn't say he's a bad trainer by any means but I wouldn't say he's at the top of the game either. I'd imagine Angus Gold would have also had a major say is Makfi's sale as well as having a major say in the purchase of Arcano whom I am sure they bought him with the 2000 Guineas in mind. Sheikh Hamdan buys Arcano from the Sangster boys, Sangsters purchase a share in Inler and we well know that both of those purchases will have been for a lot more than the 26,000 guineas paid for the Shadwell homebred Makfi. Just goes to show it's not just football that's a 'funny old game'.
It's not as if Makfi was unsound or set to be off the track for months/years when sold, he cantered in on his debut about a month after passing through the sales ring.
I've just watched a rerun of the race and Lemaire was always travelling well on the winner, I think he may just prove to be a very, very good miler.

Re: The Guineas
Interesting aside, but the first time ever racehorses were brought from France to England via the Channel Tunnel was last weekend - and they won both Guineas!
