Thread: The Guineas

    The Guineas

Sent away for my 2000 Guineas tickets yesterday, get to pick them up at the Box office, i'm in the paddock enclosure .
This race is looking hot right now and a lot of horses have it all to prove, I cannot wait to see St Nicholas Abbey in the flesh, seeing as I missed out on STS last year I do not want to miss out on another potential super star.

Wow that will be some experience!!! Have an amazing time! I love SNA so I hope he runs well but I like Elusive Pimpernel too (although I dislike his name). In the 1000 Guineas, I have an ante post bet for Lady Darshaan at 33/1. Call me crazy but I think she is going to run big.

    Re: The Guineas

I keep looking back at the Racing Post Trophy and I find it hard to oppose SNA. EP certainly franked the form in the Craven. If he's trained on, I think SNA will take all the beating but his odds will be awful.

So, I'm also looking at Fencing Master at 14's (hearing really good things about his work at home) and Inler. Inler's only won a maiden, I know, but he was impressive and the RP had some nice footage of a recent piece of course work he'd done, easily beating some decent stablemates. He could be as high as 20-1 (coming from a less than fashionable stable) on the day and may be worth an each way dabble. It should get the trip okay.

    Can't wait.

And for the 1000, I'm kind of at a loss. Going with Fallon. If it rains a little to get the ground to good, Seta.

    Re: The Guineas

I guess it is a good thing that SNA won't have a clue of the pressure being put on him as a result of what another horse did last year.

    Have a great time!

Was a tad bit surprised to see Viscount Nelson in the line up. The only reason why I even remember him really is because he's a rather pretty boy and I have photos of him before the Breeders Cup. Wish him best of luck but not to enthusiastic about his chances.

Elusive Pimpernel for the win... would love to see Inler run well also.

And you've got Kieren Fallon on an O'Brien horse too. Haven't seen that for quite some time.

    Re: The Guineas

If anything, the form of the Racing Post Trophy now looks better than it did at the time. The only negatives are the fact that no Trophy winner has ever won the Guineas, and the fact that most Montjeu's are better over further. But neither are true negatives and I can't see him being beaten. All the vibes are very positive, and it will be a big shock if he doesn't win and win well.

I love the name. Guess you never read The Scarlet Pimpernel series, huh? All about the English dandy who was actually rescuing people during the Reign of Terror in France? Well, those books are probably not to modern taste anymore. IIRC, one of the books was called The Elusive Pimpernel, but there was also a street rhyme (in the books) along these lines:

"We seek him here, we seek him there,
    Those Frenchies seek him everywhere.
Is he in heaven? ? Is he in hell?
    That damned, elusive Pimpernel!"

    He's a good horse too.

    Re: The Guineas

To continue Second_Glance's French theme i hope that Makfi can continue the reign of terror - he was very impressive in the main French prep Prix Fontainbleau earlier this month on the same card that 1000 favourite Special Duty ran on.

The winner of SD's race Joanna carried 2lbs less and ran the 7f at Maisons-Lafitte in 0.4 seconds quicker than Makfi (who was barely ready to run) easily won the colts equivalent and at 40/1 he was well worth a bet each-way particularly with the best jockey in the race on board

    Re: The Guineas

I'm definitely getting a soft spot for Dick Turpin in this race. St Nicholas Abbey and Elusive Pimpernel look tough. An exacta box might be the order of the day. Dick Turpin would probably be good each way value.

    Re: The Guineas

Not that he appears to have much of a chance, Hearts of Fire is from the same family as my two mares, so I'll throw some good vibes his way.

Nobody said giving Kirstie Alley a colonic would be easy.

Canford Cliffs looks good. O Brien could get fined again. Where is SNA?

St Nick is now 11/10 best price and odds on in places.

Seems very, very short to me.

Aw i'm happy for the French colt. Was bought for just 25000 pounds. Disappointed for SNA though.

Yes indeed, especially as he was returned at 75/1 SP on betfair!

St Nick was very disappointing. Shades of Rainbow View in last year's 1000 Guineas.
