fame and glory

i dont' know if anyone caught it early today but he just toyed with a group of horses today won by about 8 and it could have been 15 had he wanted it to be.

Weak field but nice to see Fame and Glory in fine fettle. I was really looking forward to playing this horse in last year's BC turf but he went off the boil a bit and was not entered. I think he should be the early favorite for the Turf this year.

In fairness that's as cheap a 10f G1 as you'll ever get (ok, so it's technically 10.5f). In a true run 10f race with some speed I think he'd be taken to the cleaners. I'd almost favour Goldikova over him if they met at 10f.
That said, I think at 12f, with a true test of stamina (i.e a trailer load of Ballydoyle pacemakers in front of him), he will be the one to beat this year. I think now that they've got a 10f G1 on his resume that they'll stick to 12f from here on out. I imagine the Coronation Cup, then the King George then a break with the Arc and as the year end goal, with the BC Turf as possible icing, will be the plan for this guy. Maybe stick him in the Irish Champion if it looks to come up weak, which it does every couple of years.

13 days is a quick return but I imagine the TGC didn't drain him. Are Dixie Music and Age of Aquarius considered pacemakers? Maybe Youmzain finally gets it done in this one.

Dixie Music was the pacemaker for Fame and Glory yesterday and in his previous start.
Age of Aquarius could conceivably run on his merits, though I really don't consider him a true G1 quality horse over 12f, unless it was a weak G1. He doesn't have the pace to be used as a pacemaker. Given they ran him in Ormonde Stakes at Chester over 14f, they might have designs on him being the Ballydoyle "Cup" horse down the road.

He's slated to run in the Coronation Cup, and will then be put away for the summer, French-style, for a tilt at the Arc come the autumn. So no King George, and possibly no Irish Champion too as it's likely that Ballydoyle will have more suitable candidates.

It's easy to damn him with faint praise for his performance on Sunday, where with Cutlass Bay making no show on unsuitably fast ground, he had nothing to beat. All the same, he continues to impress as a horse whose full potential has not yet been reached and back at a mile and a half trip, he will take all the beating this year.

Dixie Music is his lead horse & pacemaker.

Age of Aquarius will definitely run on his merits if he goes to Epsom - he is also amongst the favourites for the Ascot Gold Cup. He remains unexposed and a horse of real potential and I'd be surprised to see him run against Fame And Glory.

Good. IMO, O' Brien shouldnt've ran him back in the Champion last year after his bad showing in the Arc.

Age of Aquarius runs at Leopardstown in a listed race on Sunday - as a prep for a tilt at the Gold Cup. So he'll not be going to Epsom.

Still expect Fame And Glory to turn up at Epsom in the Coronation Cup, but easy to see why the Prince Of Wales is tempting.

What a brilliant horse. He just shows how legendary Sea the Stars was.

Back to F&G,

Winning trainer Aidan O'Brien added: "He is tactically very quick now and Johnny said he was cantering at all stages. A midsummer break was the plan, but we might just have a look at the Prince Of Wales's Stakes now as he has gone very [glow=red,2,300]pacey[/glow]."
Pacey! I love this word.

He has 3 win and 1 third in 4 starts already in less than 2 months, and he can go Ascot and Sandown again before the "break" and then York and Leopardstown and Longchamp and then who knows ... Churchill and Sha Tin ....

I get the feeling that he could be following the footstep of Dylan Thomas in 2007 to be running very frequently at the top level.

Re: fame and glory

He's a very good horse, who remains under-rated, probably because Sea The Stars made mincemeat of him three times last year, particularly in the Irish Champion. But that was no disgrace, and his form is from the top drawer. I do think, however, that beating Sariska (who would prefer much softer) in itself does not make him favourite in my book for the Arc - but he will be a contender.

After 4 starts already this year, he is now being given a French-style summer break and will return in the autumn aimed at Longchamps, probably with a run in either the Irish Champion or an Arc trial first. The Breeders Cup will surely be on his agenda this year.
