    Rail Trip......exposed

Call me an East Coast snob, but i never understood the hoopla regarding this horse. He has a 12-8-3-1 record, all on plastic, all in SoCal

What has this horse that can "run all day" done in his three G1 1 1/4 races? He has beaten Tres Borrachos and the filly Life Is Sweet. He was third to Richard's Kid and Einstein who finished 6th and 11th in the BCC respectively. He lost to perennial also ran Awesome Gem.

In his two G2 wins this year he has beaten the sprinter Sangaree

Thank god that Gio Ponti ran in the Man O War yesterday rather than on that phony surface where he would have won by 5.

He was questionable at 10f to begin with, and while Bejarano did him no favors yesterday, you'd think the more logical race down the line could be the Dirt Mile. He's finished behind Awesome Gem, Richard's Kid, and Einstein in 10f races, and all of them share the commonality of being horses you probably shouldn't lose to when you're in form and targeting a tougher 10f race down the line.
Well there's lots of smart ideas in books I've never read, when the girls come talk to me I wish to hell I had

I hate to admit it but the proof is in the pudding. In no way is Rail Trip or any other California horse running yesterday in the same Ball Park as Quality Road. Rail Trip should have taken control from the start but just didn't look that interested. Like I said in another thread Quality Road on dry ground has never seen a fraction slower then 110.66. There is no way Rail Trip or any other California horse can deal with that.

The hype might have started from cynics looking for a Zenyatta-killer. A GIANT-slayer to rag on something popular.

Cynics, aka vindictive RAbids and some Eastern folks with Zen-envy who just want her so badly to be defeated. Draynay is their poster boy. Sad thing is their hatred toward Z shows just as much insecurity and fear than from the Zealots and Z's connections.

Um, it was Zenyatta's trainer that said he didn't want to climb the mountainous molehill of racing against Railtrip when asked in MAY. Not RAbids you dolt. If you could find one objective moment outside of long winded touts of your picks at the windows, I'd give you a quarter to put in your high horse.

you guys do understand that rail trip owns the stakes record for the hollywood gold cup. lmao @ questionable at the distance. lol, okay.

i'm fine with people saying he is not good. could care less. but saying a horse that owns a stakes record, in fact owns THAT stakes record, is questionable going that distance, is the stupidest thing i've ever seen and i've seen some doozies.

it's like once you get outside the big 2 or 3 here, no one knows anything.

and? but he owned a stakes record.

don't distort the argument. no one is saying he beat a wonderful field. i'm simply talking about his ability to get a distance

last year he won the race in 2 minutes and 3... but no.. can't get the distance.

no one is saying he would have beat Z or anyone else had they been in the race. it's like you guys are hell bent on that. i'm simply talking about someone saying "10F distance limitations"

Speaking of echo-chambers, you're creating one all on your own, Slewbopper.

For all the Beyer fans, let's not forget he did get a very good numer in the same race last year. And this race had to have been one of the weirdest-run 10F races I can remember in recent memory, so I'm not altogether surprised Rail Trip lost. Not giving him any excuse, just saying I wasn't surprised.

Other good horses have lost in the past too, including Quality Road, RA and all your other East Coast faves. Were you trumpeting their losses? Of course not, they're not in California!

If I were Rail Trip's connections, I'd ship him to Saratoga (he is owned by a stable with a national presence, after all) and see how he did on dirt. If he did well, Jay Em Ess can change his focus to dirt.

But alas, this won't happen, because top horses' connections generally go about 10 months of avoiding one another until the BC.

He is a gelding so they can afford to risk a loss on dirt. All he can do is make purse money and improve his family. I'd send him to Saratoga and I think they are thinking about it, but all depends on the dreaded unveiling of DM track surface.

Ok, now this is just getting so ridiculous it is funny. Rail Trip finishes a 1/2 length behind Awesome Gem, a horse that has been consistently winning/placing in stakes on dirt and synth for years, and he is suddenly chopped liver. Wow.
Big Brown, Coronado's Quest, Escena, Giant's Causeway, Jersey Girl, Kodiak Kowboy, Skip Away, Society Selection, Street Sense, Sunline, Willa B Awesome, Zenyatta

I'd say the one exsposed was Bejarano, guilty of his brains being in his big nose during that race. Rail Trip did all he could despite the dweeb on his back, I"ll bet you don't see that kind of trip again for him, any horse can lose at any time, Rail Trip was given a pathetic ride and still almost pulled it off, I think he's a nice horse, Gio Ponti lost to Interpatation, it's race dynamics 101.

Amazing to see the Rail Trip haters all of a sudden, awful trip, bad ride, slow pace, there are times when u throw a race out.

Lets say though for a minute that the Best horse in California would have entered the race, whoops thats right the best horse in Cali did enter the race and got beat by a 1/2 length, the best mare in Cali was resting comfortably in her stall because she can't handle the rigors of a championship campaign. I guess we'll see her go in the all so tough C.L. Hirsch and then the all important Zenyatta Stakes. Should be a true HOY campaign for her facing all of those tough California mares, LOL.

You know it's a bad race when AA even points it out. Congrats! I believe this is the first time I've ever agreed with you. Many here thought it was a perfectly good ride by Bejarano and a perfectly good trip. They saw nothing wrong with it. Go figure.

Especially since Ron Ellis said post-race, "He was wide. I don't know why.''
I wonder if he'll keep Bejarano aboard Rail Trip for the next race.

Dead on post RHIOT ... Very few here saw the same race that you, SOTS, AA, Ron Ellis and I saw. Somehow they thought it was a perfectly good ride by Bejarano and a perfectly good trip.
