She "might" not be done after the Classic as reported on TVG.

This has been talked about more openly for at least the last couple months. Surprised it's just now really getting out. They will let her decide...just as they did this year.

C'mon on down Dave! He rolled his eyes a little when I asked but then said it was ok. AOL said your email does not exist.

Agreed Colonel - the hype is overkill

Hope you make it down Dave!! another NJ traveler. I set out at 6 AM tomorrow. If there were room, I would invite you for the ride but I have a car load of 80 year olds! I feel like a youngster at 62!

Ezariah, just curious, if she's full of energy in the barn this winter is it possible they might consider Dubai?

    You're such a dork BF ... ;-)

I, for one, hope they retire her after this race.

While I enjoy her presence immensely ... I want her out of the game healthy and happy more.

Ezariah knows the connections, which is why I asked her. I could imagine an abbreviated racing campaign early next year, and she'd be back in time for breeding season, if they plan to breed her in 2011.
I really think they're having trouble imagining life without Zen around.

Slewbopper, very glad you'll be able to see her and that the forum was able to help in that effort. Good to know there are nice people like Laurieace to help you out (I'll continue to vote for her frequently on that other thread LOL).

I've seen Z race 6 times and visited her at Santa Anita after the 2008 Lady's Secret. Glad I did it before she became a phenomenon, the barn was quiet with just a big fan blowing over Z after the race. You'd hardly have thought she'd raced that day, not a hair was turned on that massive frame of hers. And I can thank another forum member for being able to visit her - thank you Psychotic Parakeet!

You'll have to come back to this thread and tell us what you thought of the spectacle. I am jealous. Got another roll away bed Laurieace? LOL - just kidding just kidding!

(and Bopper, I feel your pain in the health insurance dept, I'm an old phart too)

Spot on with the bolded part.

Zen is looking and doing as good or better than she ever has. That is a fact. Mr. Moss is on record now as saying nothing has been decided with her future. He won't make the same mistake as he did last year. She will go home and Shirreffs will evaluate her condition, both mentally and physically. There is much to consider when deciding what will happen next, but Zen herself will have a great deal of input.

I would love to see her go to Dubai, but that is a long shot at best.

As a side note, Shirreffs can be seen almost constantly with camera in hand. He's covering all his bases, just in case.

Here it is. The connections aren't the Phipps observing a great mare decorously from their box. These are by all accounts fans with a lot of money who apparently pinch themselves daily and wonder at how they got so blessed. Has any other great horse in recent history "unretired" after a major year end race? I can't think of one.

Slewbopper, I hope she comes through and you make a memory. Seeing Zenyatta live is a racing experience which has been very unique.

Yeah, and if you live in CT, the taxes don't help either. Actually, I love to fly, but I am in the same boat with not having enough funds. If for some reason she isn't retired and by some act of God comes to Belmont Park, you and I can camp out togeather next to the rail

Sounds like you got it worked out from what I can see, good for you!

It's obvious they think of Z like a member of the family, a beloved pet. Having recently lost my own 12-year-old dog/furry friend just a few weeks ago, I can understand the loss they would feel without her around.

I would imagine they have to ask themselves honestly what the chances of her foals being anywhere near as good as her on the track are. I would think its a million to one. If she was a male she would have been retired after her first year because she could make 100 babies per year and maybe one would come close to her talent. But with one per year if you are lucky, I say there is virtually no chance. So wait until she has to be retired. That will come sooner or later.

I don't see them selling her foals, either, kind of like the Jacksons aren't selling the foals of Dynaformer-La Ville Rouge. So there's no rush to breed her.

Perhaps there is a fertility issue. Is it possible to test a mare for fertility?

I don't know, I'm sure there must be. But I don't think they've given it much thought. Either Ann or Jerry Moss, don't recall whom, recently said there are no plans to breed her right away and they haven't picked a stallion either.

This will be my second trip to Churchill with the first being this year's Derby which I absolutely hated. This trip feels like a pilgrimage. I really feel like I would walk if I had to.
