    Re: RIP Rough Sailing

I have a bad feeling about the two remaining turf races today. The Euros wanted more water on the course and it seems they got it, but it is on the top and is creating a slippery surface over a hard base. GoGo said as much after the Juvy Turf.

Edit: and as I type Roy is being vanned off.
Your don't need a weatherman to know which way the wind blows.....RZ

So sad to hear he is euthanized. Fractured shoulders a death sentence? I recall one well known horse recovered with that type of injury?

It really depends on the location and severity of the fracture.

I think you're referring to Your Host, Kelso's sire. He busted up his shoulder very badly and they opted to save him, which they did. However, fractures are highly individual things so I am sure they made the right decidion to put Rough Sailing down. Very sad nevertheless. I think his rider is OK, thank goodness.

    Re: RIP Rough Sailing

Shoulders can be very tough to heal, and take a lot of work and the horse must stay quiet. Getting a fit 2 year old tb to stay quiet enough for that long (think months) is tough. Plus often there is damage that doesn't heal well. I know a pony they tried to save from a broken shoulder and basically her leg died due to no use and lack of circulation even though they tried their hardest, and she ended up getting put down anyways. So yes it is a very tough injury to heal.

Euros may have wanted it softer but the clerks went the wrong way about it, Right choice made in not running WF not worth the risk on this tight track.

RIP, never nice to see a horse go, especially one so young.

He ran on a good half mile (if not more) before being caught too. I'm sure there were complications from that. I actually saw him go down in person, wasn't watching the Jumbotron at that moment. Looked like he slipped on ice. So sad....
