War Emblem had four foals in his first year at stud in 2004.
Clan Emblem seems to be the most promising so far among the quartet and a win on turf is encouraging even if the race was nothing but an ALW.
In fact he had been getting most attention even before their debut, as his dam Azusa Yumi is regally bred. The line-up of Sunday Silence (dam’s sire), Tosho Boy (2nd dam’s sire), Partholon (3rd dam’s sire) and Speed Symboli (4th dam’s sire) looks like a crystallization of the Japanese racing and breeding history. 4th dam Sweet Luna is dam of a Triple Crown Winner, Symboli Rudolf, for example.
Hope this colt will live up to the expectations and step up to stakes levels.

Other three colts remain winless so far.

That is good news, Tachyon. Do you think Clan Emblem will go on to a career at stud because of his outstanding female family even if he is a 'flop' on the racetrack?

Re: Clan Emblem (War Emblem) wins!

He may still need a graded win or more, I guess.
And that will also depend on how his brothers and sisters show up this year.

53 mares were bred to War Emblem in 2004 and 33 foals are expected to debut this year.

Re: Clan Emblem (War Emblem) wins again!

Clan Emblem scored a solid victory again in a competitive 1800m turf alw at Fukushima Racecourse today.
He does like turf and may step up to graded stakes level soon.
    He is now 7-3-2-1.

It certainly would be something if War Emblem begot a graded stakes winner. Here's to hoping...

    Thanks for the update, Tachyon.

Re: Clan Emblem (War Emblem) wins again!

Not bad at all considering WE is such a stubborn breeder. Was 2004 when they started using the bait and switch routine? Then he covered a passel of mares, soon caught on to Shadai's nontruth-in-advertising, and put the brakes back on.
"Ah, home, sweet home....Wait, I don't live here."

Re: Clan Emblem (War Emblem) wins again!

Hmmm...while I can't see what exactly was Shadai's nontruth-in-advertising, it is true that they have always failed to let the fans know about War Emblem at stud.

As long as I know, the last information about his status at stud that made an appearance in the media goes back to the article on Bloodhorse dated July 9, 2006. (I remember we discussed about this article in this forum..)

    from bloodhorse http://breeding.bloodhorse.com/viewstory.asp?id=34328

War Emblem's problems in the breeding shed have gotten worse. There will be no foals sired by the 7-year-old champion son of Our Emblem born in 2007. The 2002 Kentucky Derby (gr. I) and Preakness Stakes (gr. I) winner has been reluctant to cover mares ever since he entered stud in 2003 at the Shadai Stallion Station in Japan.
"Shadai Stallion Station tried to show more than 100 mares to War Emblem this year, but he covered only one, and that mare is not in foal," said Naohiro Goda of the Regent Company.

War Emblem had four foals in his first crop, more than 40 in his second, and only two in his third (born in 2006).

"This is not a good thing for us, but this happens in the horse business," said Teruya Yoshida of Shadai. "We've tried many things. Sometimes they've worked, but this year, almost nothing."

Asked about War Emblem's future, Yoshida said: "With the horses here, we take care of them, and we try. People in Japan were expecting very much of War Emblem. There is a very small chance that will happen, but we will keep trying."

One possibility that Yoshida said he would consider is to stand War Emblem at a farm in the United States that has expertise in or the willingness to handle problem stallions.

"Some farms have contacted us in that way," he said.

It is amazing that there have been no official reports available to the public in years even in Japan.
There is nothing worse than a lack of informaion.
    That irritates me.

Don't get me wrong, I am neither anti-Shadai nor pro-Shadai. And I don't doubt Shadai's commitment to this stallion and their effort. (see the list of mares bred to him in 2004 on the previous page, they really are excellent broodmares that Shadai owns.)

I just hope they will find the best way for War Emblem and for his fans. But if it doesn't work in Japan, Shadai has to send him back to the states, in my opinion.

To return to the thread, I found some nice photos of Clan Emblem.
He is likely to run in the G3 Radio Nikkei Sho on July 1st.

Wouldn't that be something if Clan Emblem went on to become a super sire after his racing career? Siring tons of horses that could race and win anywhere?

Good for War Emblem!!Â* It's nice to see him with a very promising looking one from such a small (to say the least ) crop.
