I think Fire Assay just missed 3rd by about a nose, but she was making up a ton of ground at the end. Nice effort. Forbidden Gift was behind the closely bunched group of 6, so probably finished about 7th.

Edit: Fire Assay was 3rd. I'd be happy with that performance, if I were her people.

And Forbidden Gift did get 7th.

He stunk it up huge, was 5th (only because another horse was eased, I think).

Oh, he was just awful. Already packing it in at the half-mile pole.

Harris was the horse who was eased. Fortunately it says he walked off.

Roman Treasure (Roman Ruler x Jeanne Jones) won the Chaldea S. at Belmont today, her first start of the year.

Wow was she flying. Set fractions of 22.01, 44.10, 55.84, and finished in 1:08.84. She had every right to be tired after setting those fractions. It would be funny if her and Roman Threat become the top sprinters in their divisions.

Thanks Mariasmon! Don't know if you were deliberately hanging that one out there or not, but couldn't help myself since I AM her people, haha. Fire Assay ran great and closed into a race with no pace at all. I think she might point toward a mile and three-sixteenths race up at Saratoga next. We had been keeping her short-ish thinking she'd need speed up front to be competitive with her one run, but honestly, I think she might have enough turn of foot to be pretty tough at this level regardless of pace. While I think this is a black-type filly down the road (and with her pedigree, it'd be awfully nice to have that in our pockets), we've gotta try to pick up at least one more condition in NY while the purses are crazy :-). Hope she'll be on the track again in early August!

For those who are Giacomo fans, Doug O'Neill has a 2 year old son of his out of an unraced mare named Gaily Field who is by Crafty Prospector ... Here is his pic from last Saturday ... Looks like a sweet kid!

His name is Jesse's Giacomo. And yeah ... His mom is a chestnut.

Thanks for the pic. I love Giacomo and it's disappointing that he hasn't produced the best runners.
