I'm suprised that Sharp Humor is that low, considering his first crop has done quite well this year. And they sold a couple of his 2YOs yesterday for good prices.
Mr Greeley still too high for me at $40k. Take a few Jim Bolger horses out of the equation, and he's a $20k stallion for me.
The thing with Mr. Greeley is they're still selling extremely well. I'm always waiting for the bubble to burst on that horse and it never does.
I'm kind of shocked at Speightstown being 50k. He's one of my favorite stallions and would love to use him but that's quite the fee jump.
Nobody said giving Kirstie Alley a colonic would be easy.
This is true, and somewhat bizarre. His yearling sales average and median for 2010 was higher than those of Medaglia d'Oro. Not by a lot, but it was a total shock to me. I know that these yearlings were out of a very good book of mares for Mr. Greeley, but still surprised me. Nobody seems to want to buy one, but somebody is.

WHY won't they lower Big Brown? Probably more to do w/ IEAH than 3Cs, but still. If you're breeding to race, I think Point Given is a pretty good option at $7500. He's really taken a steep dive...useful stallion, though.
A few stallions deserve to have their stud fees raised but why are so many going up?
Likewise, given the disastrous results at this Keeneland sale, shouldn't more stallions' fees be lowered?
My question is, Why should the stallion owners lower their stud fees if they can get mare owners to pay those high fees that they are asking?
Sure, I know there are deals to be had, and you can get to some (not all) of these stallions for less than their advertised fees.
But, why don't mare owners take some responsibility and STOP BREEDING mares that don't produce runners or don't produce foals that are profitable at the sales??? How many GOOD pedigrees do you see in Book 7 of the current Keeneland November Sale? Have you ever noticed that the individuals coming out of those books just don't have that look to them like they do in the earlier books? Not a coincidence.
I am not saying that stud fees don't need to be lowered, but until there are less mares going to be bred, the stallion owners can get away with it.
There ARE less mares being bred, at least in Kentucky. The stallion farms, for the most part are competing for the bigger breeders not the small one's. I think their glasses are awfully tinted.
Nine of the twelve Big Brown's to sell so far have sold to Pegasus Stable Holding Group LLC (or something like that) and the only purchases by this Pegasus Holding Group have been Big Brown weanlings.
Not sure who that group is, but if I were going to breed to Big Brown I'd like to see more sales that didn't look like some sort of home cooking deal.
Ashford doesn't seem to have released theirs yet, but it appears that Thewayyouare has relocated to Ireland![]()
