Goldikova is the female "plain brown wrapper" to John Henry. There is/was just nothing about their looks that is impressive. At least John Henry acted as if he were special. She barely picks up her head. She seems so bored with it all ... ho hum, crushing a field of males, big deal.
My point was that she never changes her look. She looks just like that in the mornings. She looks like that when she is walking around the Q barn. She looks like that in the post parade. She looks like that after a winning race.
She has no alert, on her toes, taking in the moment kind of look to her. It's just 'ho hum'. I certainly didn't mean that as a slap. After all, I compared to her one of the bestest 'plain brown wrappers' there was. ;-)
You know, looking at that ... and I did see her coming over for the race, but hadn't really thought about it until now ...
I wonder if only she and Zenyatta got those great blankets? I don't recall seeing Midday other than race day and she didn't have one. I believe that those three females were the only "returning 2009 BC champs".
Or did they only give them to the two who were going for a three-peat. The reason I ask is that I don't recall any other horses with those white blankets with their names on them.
thanks for posting them!!
Everything about her is so unassuming. Who would know that lurking beneath that rather ordinary looking mare is a racehorse of extraordinary accomplishment? It's like she's adopted a sort of incognito look.
