    DerbyDreamer.com - fantasy horse racing

I recently started helping the folks at Vinery out with their fantasy horse racing contest - http://www.derbydreamer.com We just announced some changes to the game to make it fun for a wider variety of racing fans, so even if you've played before, we'd love to get your feedback on the new format. Prizes are awarded to the top finishers each month. For January, the top five finishers will receive $2,500, $1,000, $500, $300, and $200. The sixth through tenth place finishers will receive free entries. The normal cost per entry is $12. A stable last for twelve months, although the top finishers are almost always newly created stables that target a specific month with their picks.

I hope it was ok to post this here. If so, I'd like to use this thread for a combination of ongoing strategy discussion and suggestions on how to make the game even better.

That's where you go for this. There's a bunch of game oriented people here, but that's the appropriate board.

Ha Ha Ha I am holding my sides with laughter. MOST people cannot predict, in APRIL, what horses are even going to make it to he gate at Churchill the first Saturday in May based up REALITY, and this malarkey comes up?

Folks you need to wean yourself off the ridiculous movies and television "reality" and move out into the real world!

I see you're showing your usual firm grasp of the facts. A stable selected now would contain horses one expects to run well in January, not May. In fact, your post suggests that you may not even know what fantasy sports are...which would make it pretty odd that you even wasted your time posting in this thread.

We just added 70 new horses to the list of those available for the contest.

Also, the scoring rules are changing as of January 1st to emphasize horses winning grade stakes races, and de-emphasize the benefit of picking horses who finish in the top 5 in allowance or graded stakes races without winning.

I love the format and love the contest...but I am a Maryland resident, sooooo...

    Why can't Marylanders play?

Ruffian75 - There are a variety of state laws that apply to either fantasy sports or horse racing which we need to comply with and which prevent us from allowing residents of certain states to participate. In Maryland's case, I believe it's the racing laws that cause the problem.

Harmonious, Go Forth North, and Quick Enough are all entered in graded stakes races this weekend and available for stables.
