    Haskin''s early Derby scorecard

    http://cs.bloodhorse.com/blogs/horse...rby-promo.aspx

No ranking yet, although he's assigned some points. This is an alphabetical listing of the "hopefuls" who have caught his eye.

    http://cs.bloodhorse.com/blogs/horse...rby-promo.aspx

And this caught my eye in his comments about Jaycito:

"Baffert has had to work on a lot of issues with him, and we’ll have to see how he comes back."

Sounds a bit worrisome to me.

(I'll be keeping an eye on Black N Beauty, who cost Zayat a whopping $2500. Love to see the cheap ones prove everybody wrong.)

CURLINELLO – What a legacy he would leave for owner/breeder Edward P. Evans. By Smart Strike, out of a Pleasant Colony mare, who is out the top-class Minstrella, this grand-looking colt made a good late run to break his maiden first-time out, then had to settle for second in two Monmouth stakes behind Sweet Ducky. He’ll get better as the distances stretch out. Rating: 6
I wonder if Haskin knows this one is out with a leg fracture? At any rate I hope he makes it back in time for the TC.

I also don't care for that comment about Jaycito... doesn't sound encouraging anyway.
Shadow Warrior also sounds interesting... haven't even heard of him before this.

I am not sure Curlinello will make it back to race at all. It happened in late November and given Haskin's contact with the farm you would think he would have known. PS to edit and say he checked with the farm and confirmed the injury, likely retirement, and removed him from his list.

Bet Baffert isn't signing up for any more Mike Mitchell rehab projects.

Steve and I are probably the only ones who still like Stay Thirsty, but I expect very good things from him.

Yes I expect him to make up a length or two on Mo's long shadow this year.

    Re: Haskin''s early Derby scorecard

I was a bit horrified to see Mucho Macho Man was barely 13 mths old when he made his first start (that seems to have been editted out now). I think the real surprise with this colt will be if he's still in one piece by Derby time.....

Probably not on anybody's serious contender list, but I kinda like Comma To The Top. If he can get the distance (I think he can), he could be interesting. They have run him a bit harder than I would like to see for a 2 yr old, but he seems to improve every start. I also like that he's a gelding and that if they treat him right, we could enjoy him for a few years beyond the 3 yr old yr. I've always had a soft spot for hard knocking geldings.

I'll take El Grayling and Printing Press although I think Black N Beauty might be the most likely horse to have a bright future. I just think that he's got a tough post, he'll be a short price and it is very tough for maiden winners to win next out. Some of them do obviously but it's not worth taking 5/2.

El Grayling 4th. BNB went to the lead and never looked back. PP and SW made a bid and flattened in the stretch. EG was never a threat.

Not that impressed with this race. Will have to reconsider my Derby pick!!!

I still like Stay Thirsty. The last one I liked that much was Giacomo. Imagine that.

I like him, too. Very much.

Jaycito had an abscessed tooth, didn't he? I wonder if that's what Haskin meant. Hopefully that's why he was running out on the turns, as I like him, too.

I just think Pletcher sent the poor colt on a fool's errand in the BC. I mean, he hadn't run past 7 furlongs and not a race at all since the Hopeful............he didn't run that badly in the BC. He's got speed - he's no plodder and his pedigree suggests he should be better this year. He's flying under everyone's radar and that's fine - though I admit I wish he wasn't owned by Repole.

Jaycito is owned by Zayat and is trained by Mitchell.

I think Slewfan2 was talking about Stay Thirsty. But Jaycito was transferred to Baffert in mid-November.

Oops, that was supposed to be 23 mths. He won't be fully three years old until the Belmont this year. Too much, too young, in my opinion. Its a shame because he has a little talent.
