First rule: Try always to do what's right for the horse. The people part will work out. -- Josh Pons, Merryland, 2007
Boo.
I think Ill take a flyer at that price.
Giant Oak was runner-up to Musket Man in the Illinois Derby.
Now that Giant Oak has finally hit his stride, it does not surprise me to see Musket Man retired. Musket Man knew the beating he would have sustained had he hung around, run in 2011, and squared off again against Giant Oak!
I really like honest, consistent, game horses who try hard every time out. And that was Musket Man!
Hope he enjoys retirement!
Must be Pletcher's fault.
Sad, he's run with a talented group and I thought he had a real chance to break out this year. Ah well.
Questing to find out who the best 3 year old in the country is.
"If anything is certain. It is that change is certain"
Dave hit it right......Musket retired cause he feared facing the Oak Man!

That and they didn't have an AquaTread Derby carded anywhere.
I'm sorry to hear he's retiring. He was a wonderful horse. But he's earned his retirement too. Have fun with the fillies, MM.![]()
You've got to ask yourself one question. Do I feel lucky? Well, do ya, Punk?
Dirty Harry
I'm no pedigree expert, but with his accomplishments it seems like $2,500 is a pretty good deal.
I'm sorry he's retiring, though.
sad to see him go.i liked musket man as a game, honest horse
dang! love Musket Man! what a game horse!!! He is good too.. He may not have gotten wins to often, but he lways ran well, just had to run well and behind great champs!
He is sorta like First Dude...haha
Well cr*p! I'm a Muskat Man lover and will really miss seeing him run. I hope he has a successful stud career. Maybe someday I'll own a retired MM baby.![]()
Well, I guess there really wasn't a grade I with his name on it.
Nice. He gets beat a nose in the Gr. 1 Carter, Blame and Quality Road beat him less than 2 lengths in the Gr. 1 Whitney, gets beat a length and a half by Mine That Bird and Rachel in the Preakness, 2nd to Quality Road by less than 2 in the Grade 1 Met Mile. The horse did far more than anyone ever thought he would, and he didnt do it because he had a bad trainer.
