Anyone know if what I fear happened to Milty Way at Santa Anita today happened to him?

It looked like he likely broke down completely on the replay.

Edit ... I just watched the HEAD ON replay and he didn't go down, but looked very hobbled. I'm hoping somehow that whatever happened to him wasn't unltra serious, but I fear it is. If anyone finds out his status, please let me know.

1/30/11 Santa Anita Race 4 - Broke down nearing midstretch and was vanned off.

At least there's no official word on his ultimate status yet ... Still hoping for his well being.

I remember saying to myself before he ran today that I wondered if he was going to actually run today because it seemed like he scratched out the last few times he was supposed to race ... And then this happens to him ...

Not sounding good. Thanks for what you found thus far Flanders. I'm hoping that because it says "injuries" instead of "fatality" that it means Milty is still with us.

Yeah ... I kept saying to myself every time I'd see him listed to run that I wondered if he'd scratch again or if I'd actually get to see him today.

I guess in retrospect we now know why he was scratching all of the time. I wish he would have scratched this time too.

Care to guess who his trainer is/was ... ? It's the obvious one.

He finished fourth of eight on 12/29, earning $1,200. My Last Tycoon was a vet scratch in that race. My Last Tycoon remains on the vet list.

Scratched on 11/11 and 1/21 ... And 1/21 was a VET scratch ... Not sure what 11/11's scratch was.

You ARE, however, correct that he was a TRAINER scratch from the 1/21 race ... Camicory was the VET scratch of which I was thinking.

So I was mistaken ONCE ... Milty Way was, however, scratched twice within the last 2 1/2 months and for the trainer to have scratched him out on 1/21 and then he breaks down the very next race ... Yes ... Looks very suspect to me.

And certainly the history of this trainer plays into my suspicions. I won't deny that.

It's a shame ... He's a super nice guy ... But I don't have confidence that he has his horse's best interests at heart.

Another trainer who runs his horses back very frequently is Barry Abrams ... But seeing the way he loves on his horses pre-race ... from his best horse to his lowest level claimer makes me believe that Barry wouldn't run them if he had any reason to believe they might be unsound. That guy REALLY loves his horses. Kisses on them, massages their necks, snuggles with them and whispers in their ears. It's such a heartwarming thing to witness.

I was watching him with Swongs the other day ... It was incredible. Swongs is a low level claimer who has only won like 2 out of 20 ... But to watch Abrams with him, he was the most valuable horse in the world. Truly heartwarming.

All I was doing was correcting errors of fact, which I assumed were simply good-faith mistakes. Perhaps, as you suggest, there was an element of willful self-deception in your errors, but I was not even thinking about that sort of thing. I just thought you had made a mistake. I didn't even think about why; I just thought it was a mistake and that it should be corrected.

Ahhhhhhh ... I went back and looked and it does appear that I said that. I didn't remember saying that, but it was in print ... So I guess I did eh? ;-)

I don't know why I'd have thought he was a gate scratch when I took his pic and had looked up on Calracing to see that he had actually run in that race ... Must have been mixing up events as I typed.

So yep ... You ARE correct ... I stated that incorrectly. No big deal and I actually appreciate your catching that.

Now to state things clearly as I didn't the first time ...

Milty Way scratched twice in the last 2 1/2 months ... One 11/11 and 1/21 ... The 1/21 scratch was a TRAINER scratch ... Then he breaks down in the next race. Seems to me, in hindsight, that he was allowed to race when the trainer may have had a pretty good idea he wasn't quite sound.

This is what I said ... It doesn't seem to me I was saying both scratches were vet scratches ... Do you read that differently?

And of course, I wasn't intentionally misinforming. I actually thought the 1/21 was a vet scratch and I was wrong on that. As far as the 12/29 race, well ... I obviously mixed up my thought process there and mistyped. Being that I had his picture from that race and actually had verified on Calracing that he had run in it.

So no intentional misleading here. The bottom line is that I think the scratch history of this horse and what ended up happening to him is very suspect.

And the bottom, bottom line is I hope that somehow he will survive his injuries, but I fear he's likely not with us as I type.

He was still standing as he came to a stop ... But very, very hobbled.

He never went down though ... So one can but hope ...

But he was very noticably hobbled ... Severely even ... So I'm not optimistic.

But I'm taking a no news is good news stance right now ... Thoroughbred Query just says "sesamoid injuries and vanned off" ... It doesn't say "fatal" or "catastrophic" or "euthanized" ... So I'm hoping that means it's not as bad as it looked.

But he crumbled down on his front legs twice ... Back to back ... So it didn't look promising.

He's not on the vet's list yet, which may or may not be a good sign.

No horses listed from SA on 1/30/11, though, so they may not have reported yet.
