    Preachinatthebar moves to WA

Wish he'd started off here, he'd have been a good fit from the get go.

I got to see him when we took our mare to be bred to Dance Master there at JEH in oklahoma, Sean the stallion manager is a nice guy and he showed him to us that night that we got there. He was a good looking son of a gun. I know that they were excited about standing him there. The people there took good care of our mare while she was there, and even sent us a couple of sonograms of the foal when it was nothing more than a dot and then a little more devloped later on. They were very helpful to us when our mare died, they said they could refund our money or we could bring another mare to breed for free. At that time all we had was our mares 2 year old daughter and that was way to early to breed. So they graciously refunded the money minus of course the booking fee, but still if we ever get another mare for breeding, I wouldn't mind going back.

They need to proofread that article a little more closely--they've listed his dam as Holy Nova. His dam is actually Holy Nola. They got the right pedigree/race record for her, just the wrong name.

(Holy Nova, on the other hand, is a multiple stakes winner at Hastings, and was still running as of last year. I was very confused for a moment.)

Thank you, I miss her very much. It's been 2 years since she passed away from a broken leg in the pasture the day after christmas.

Nola the bartender, for whom Preachinatthebar is named, is a close friend of mine, and getting news of him is really pretty wonderful for both of us!

Here's his conformation shot from the JEH Stallion Station website. What a beautiful white specimen he has turned out to be!

I still remember the first time I saw Preachinatthebar. It was at Santa Anita on the Friday before the Breeder's Cup 2003. He and Lion Heart were making their debut's ( well I know it was LH debut) Anyway, I placed a bet with Lion Heart and Preachin'. I believe it was an exacta box. Lion Heart won and broke his maiden but Preachin' came in third. No money for me but I still have that ticket to this day.

Is Nola still tending bar at the tracks? I got a glass of wine on Saturday at SA and I heard someone speak to the bartendress as "Nola." It was kinda exciting!
I ran marathons. I saw the Taj Mahal by moonlight. I drove Highway 1 in a convertible. I petted Zenyatta.

Nola is most definitely on the job at Santa Anita.....after 38 years, I believe! She also works Hollywood Park at the Mel Stute bar overlooking the finish line. I'm not sure how long she's been there at HP, but I know it's been a good many years! I assure you that she is the only bartender at Santa Anita named Nola, so I think it's safe to assume that the bartender you saw was, in fact, she! ;-)

I'll never forget the day that Preachinatthebar won the San Felipe....2004 I think it was. Her boss showed up and got behind the bar so that she could go down for the picture, which I thought was pretty neat, but not only that.....she got to walk "her horse" into the winner's circle! The crowd pretty much went nuts just because she is so well-known and popular, and of course everybody by then knew the whole story of the horse's name. It was just an unforgettable moment!

Diver52, do you go to Santa Anita often on weekends? If you do, make yourself known to me. I'm there at Nola's bar every Saturday and Sunday, and I park my Form on the bar just to the right of the beer tabs. I'm a 62-year-old broad with short gray hair, always wearing a "horsie" T-shirt and sporting a waist-bag....my name is Margi. I always love hooking up with fellow message-board degenerates!

Just saw this on bloodhorse.com. Kinda neat that they deemed it important enough to even mention:

Mr P he's not, but this still makes me smile

Late edit: Sorry...I just noticed the "First Winners" thread. Hope this is alright!

Doesn't bother me any. Only a few people on here know I LOVE driving. Did a road trip from Pasadena to Portland to Seattle to Spokane to Missoula, MT to Salt Lake City to Vegas and back in a week during the New Year's weekend/holiday this year. Roughly about 3,600 miles.

    Still can't wait.
