Foot issues may force retirement of Viva Pataca

Viva Pataca has had foot issues since his arrival over five years ago, but the extent of this problem was borne out by a stewards' report that the injury was bleeding after Sunday's race and extended all the way to the gelding's coronary band. A second vet report was issued on the injury yesterday and Viva Pataca will be required to pass a veterinary test before racing again.

I am surprised he has held up for this long.

He ran well on Sunday in the Group 1 Hong Kong Gold Cup to California Memory, running on for 4th.

Considering the horse is now 9, I think the best is truly behind him, and John Moore and Stanley Ho should let the horse retire gracefully.

I wouldn't be surprised if he was brought to Australia, and retired to Living Legends, where Silent Witness and Bullish Luck now call home.
