    Black Caviar

    from SCMP
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Champion Australian sprinter Black Caviar is starting to brush aside long-standing records as easily as she keeps brushing aside her opposition and success in tomorrow's Newmarket Handicap at Flemington will take her to a new benchmark.................... winning her 10th race from as many starts would break a record going back to the 19th century.

No horse in Australia's racing history - which stretches back to the early 1800s - has won its first 10 starts, with the record of nine standing to the credit of 1880 Melbourne Cup winner, Grand Flaneur.

Only one female has carried more weight than her 128 pounds to win the race, and that was 105 years ago, while only the 1991 winner, the Bart Cummings-trained champion Shaftesbury Avenue, has lugged the equal of her handicap to victory in the race in the past 50 years.

    .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. ......................
Moody has nominated another of his runners, Hinchinbrook, as a possible danger to his great mare: "He's a super three-year-old who ran a great placing in the Oakleigh Plate and she is going to give him eight kilos. He will be out there to knock her off if he is good enough."

Got no details, but I read on FB that she blew away the field, carrying 128 lbs!

She sure is a special horse. That video was a pleasure to watch.

    Re: Black Caviar

I believe she will now be the highest rated female horse alongside Goldikova.

She is the world's best sprinter, by a very long country mile, and what she did today only true champions of the track do.

I cannot wait to see this mare in Sydney in the big Group 1 TJ Smith Stakes over 6f at Royal Randwick.

Lets just applaud this wonderful galloper.

She did the final 600 meters (3 furlongs) in :32.67.

Nice page here about her, with footage of her very first start:

They are planning a pretty short turn around for her next 2 races, sorry if I don't get the dates right I read this earlier, March 25th and April 9th are the next two race dates. I guess it will show if she is truly a super horse. Three super hard races in 6 weeks time.

What a terrific mare. They don't win any easier than she does.

    Re: Black Caviar

I think the interesting one will be when the International Horse Racing Federation releases their particular rating.

We do have to remember, since this is such a topical debate when these particular ratings are released, to not rely on the string of Group 1 races she has won to date, but the best individual performance she gives.

I think based on that she run and win, will earn herself at least 127.

If she happens to win the TJ Smith Stakes over 6f and at Group 1 WFA level in Sydney during our autumn carnival, she'd be guaranteed 130.

The champ has done it again, and won her 11th race of 11 starts.

This time the Group 1 WFA William Reid Stakes over 6f at Moonee Valley.

    Re: Black Caviar

Eased down over the last 100 metres, on a dead track, and close to the track record. I don't think I've ever seen a horse win races as easily as she does. She makes me shake my head in wonder, she is awesome! There was a big crowd to see her tonight, they applauded her as she went out onto the track before the race and they gave her a standing ovation well before she went past the post.

    Re: Black Caviar

This is a glorious mare. She wins this as easily as loping across a paddock. I love how one of her co-owners state they originally wanted to buy a horse to race with a budget of 100k, but found her and came up to 210k, and were they ever thankful they found the extra money. Her connections are clearly having the thrill of a lifetime with her.

Can't wait for her next start!

“The only instruction I got was not to hit her,” Nolen said.

And here's a video promo put out by the MV Racing Club for the race -- "Only Girl in the World":

What an impressive mare! Wouldn't it have been cool to see her compete in the Al Quoz Sprint Saturday?

I know! Would have loved to have seen her there. She is really something else. All Nolen does is shake the reins and boom she's gone. Very, very impressive mare.
