Looks like BC's connections are leaving her future in the hands of the vets:

Nelly won't run again this calendar year. Trainer and all owners will meet in September to discuss whether to retire her or bring her back for the Autumn season in Australia.

Hope she heals quickly and feels no discomfort. In an ideal world she would come back for at least one more race in front of her loyal and supportive Aussie crowd. It would be great seeing her go out a winner at home. But, I don't know how practical that is now or how getting her ready for breeding would influence such a decision?
Wish they'd just retire her.
If they run her again, its pure greed and selfishness, nothing else.
She has done what has been asked of her, gone to England and won at Royal Ascot.
She is a lightly raced horse for a now 6yo. Sunline had one of her best preps as an autumn 6yo and Makybe Diva won a Cox Plate and third melb Cup as a 6yo. If she is sound cannot see why they cannot give her an autumn campaign. She'd win everything again and could win 5 or 6 more Gr 1s and go out in a blaze of glory not a struggling win on a bog track.
Had she won by a length or two wouldthere be all the retirement calls? The original plan was to go to the UK then back for the patinck in early Nov and then onto to HK. Clearly she needs a spell so thats out but mares are a long time retired and there is no guarantee they will get into foal, hold a foal or not hav foaling issues so its no different to racing (riskweise). Mares are a long time retired and the best mares seem to take another generation (so 15 - 20 years) before the blood comes through to produce a really good horse.
There is no 'greed' in racing on - she is a racehorse and thats what they were born to do. No one said that when Sunline went on racing at 6 and 7years and Makybe Diva as a 6yo (and she could have come back in the autumn but that time of year is aimedat sprinters not stayers). And it was great we had them for those extra few seasons as its not like their immediate progeny has set records or anything and its still a long wait for their foals.
I really hope they bring Black Caviar back.she's a divine mare and i'm not ready to see her go yet
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, Nelly! (It's 18 August in Australia.)

I hear Breyer will be making a model of her towards the end of the year.
Black Caviar's odds of returning to race are 50/50, her connections say.

BLACK CAVIAR

Neil Werrett, co-owner of 2011 Australian Horse of the Year Black Caviar, told Australia's 2KY Radio that he had spoken with trainer Peter Moody over the past week and that both felt that there was a "50-50" chance that the undefeated champion would race again in the coming months.
According to a Melbourne Herald-Sun article, Werrett and Moody plan to rest Black Caviar for about two more weeks in her paddock and then ease her back into light training to gauge her condition. If Black Caviar does return, Werrett confirmed that it would only be for a few additional starts before she retires.
"If there is any chance that she is not 100% by then we will put her to stud," Werrett said. "If all is good, we have all agreed we will give her a preparation in the autumn............."
