    Worst Derby in memory?

There is not one horse to be excited about at this point. NOT ONE. Somebody has to win the G 1 races but I haven't seen any horse that is still on the Derby trail that is anything more than a G2 at this point

No, last year's was. And the year before that, and the year before that. It's tradition.

Well, if you were just all over Uncle Mo. Then I guess you don't have any horses to be "excited" about. Unless he's still pointing to the Derby that is. You can still be excited.

I think there are other horses for other people to be excited about though.

There are some really nice horses this year, but several of those nice colts aren't 1 1/4 horses or are going to be late developers.

    Last year was definitely worse

EXACTLY, i can't remember a year where it wasn't the worst bunch of derby horses ever and that includes the years of secretariat and seattle slew. and i can't remember a year since i started hovering around TBC that there wasn't this thread...at this point i wouldn't feel like it was really triple crown time without it

Yup and I am pretty sure there are some very talented horses in this crop, they may just not be in the Derby or be true Derby material. Then again how many good 10f horses do we really seem to have anymore? It sure seems like most of the talented horses we have seen recently were seemed to be much better milers and to 9f than 10f horses over all. We have had a few that really did do well at 10f but as an older horse there aren't that many 10f options so we don't always get to see the true 10f horses really shine year long.

I think Uncle Mo, The Factor, BAT (injury) are all very talented and a few others I think are good horses as well. Hopefully they will continue to race and we will see.

Guess at this point it's gonna be either Midnight Interlude or The Factor's to win. Due to attrition.

I think you could run The Derby 10 times and get 10 different winners, there is no stand out this, forget a Triple Crown this year.

Looks to be another forgettable year for the Kentucky Derby. But what can you expect? These 3YO's had to follow up the joys from Zenyatta, Rachel Alexandra, Curlin, etc. We have been spoiled with some more talented horses in other divisions.

I am a fan of The Factor though. I am not sure he is Derby material though and will probably get swallowed up at the end. He reminds me a little bit of Holy Bull and The Pamplemousse. The Bull obviously was no factor in 1994 which was his only real clunker of his career without an excuse. I think The Factor looks more elite at middle distances in a Formal Gold/Quality Road sense. We'll see. I want Baffert to win the Derby again. Keeps the mood of the TC trail light-hearted.

As for Uncle Mo, I was never a firm believer in him. 1/9? He seems like a lesser talented version of Quality Road. I never trust Pletcher. He needs to thank Borel and Mother Nature for last year's win. I didn't even give a damn about going to the Santa Anita Derby in person yesterday. Last year, I was jumping up and down collecting cash from Sidney's Candy who then got post 20 and bombed in the Ky Derby. This year was a Baffert longshot. No excitement. I wouldn't say it is the worst, but maybe the most boring. Reminds me of 1999. Heck, 1999 was just a bad racing year overall. The Breeders' Cup was mostly terrible with longshots galore. It is the Derby. It just comes and goes. Some years may be better than others. This year is definitely not one of them.

I'm just waiting for the post position draw. Listing them in ranks just seems like a waste of time. Some of them might not even be there and bad weather can ruin it all again. Best 3YO doesn't always win the Derby. The one with "best trip" usually does.

Last year stunk this year is going to surprise people. The Factor coming to his best, Toby's Corner improved with blinks and lightly raced Midnight Interlude looks decent, Uncle Mo if the Quarter crack heals, Sway away lost a tooth last out and Nehro lightly raced with a pedigree 2nd in LA derby.

    Re: Worst Derby in memory?

You could make an excellent (and probably truthful) case that this will be the slowest Derby in memory. But I'm not sure that worst comes into it. It looks like we have a fantastically even horse race shaping up. It should be great to watch.

Racing fans are never, ever, ever happy. Ever. They enjoy being miserable and nitpicking the boogers out of everything. You'd think terrorists were forcing some people to follow racing by aiming a gun at their head the way some people here post.

If The Robot is in the winner's circle, then it is a boring Derby. I want Zito to cry in the winner's circle.. Kodak moment.
