It's OK for me to feel relief and happiness for this horse's survival when I thought he was dead ...
You're looking at the glass as half empty HR ...
I, like all on this thread, worry about his future ... But being that I thought he was DEAD last Sunday ... Yes, I felt relief and happiness to see that he wasn't ...
And STILL do.
Live life, don't just exist it!
As I have said repeatedly, I have no objection to your happiness--I just don't want you projecting it onto him. He's carrying enough as it is.
HR, you're being ridiculous. I guess you think the horse is better off dead, is that what you're saying?
Trust you and your superiority complex to wring any shred of joy from a situation.
Live life, don't just exist it!
Not even close. If you would read with an eye for understanding, instead of looking for disagreement, you would see that you are picking a fight where none is available. I am glad that the horse did not die. I recognize in the description of his behavior how severely exhausted he was, and I pointed out that the projection that he was "happy" was a misdiagnosis. He was oxygen-depleted; The Tin Man was happy.
Yes I was and STILL am happy that he survived his ordeal ... And I figure he's pretty happy that he did too.
HR ... I think the problem here is you keep stating the obvious over and over and over ... We all realize it was a bad situation he was put in and hope he's not put into it any more ...
What you're missing is we're just reveling in the fact that he survived it because it initially appeared he did not.
We understand, thanks to you, that oxygen depletion was the likely cause of his giddyness now ... But regardless, it changes not the fact that we're giddy that he survived and is with us today.![]()
That was the whole point of this thread ... To celebrate his survival ... Not dwell on his misfortune of being put in the situation in the first place.
Hopefully the next time they don't try a horse who has trouble making the distance in a sprint, in route races, hopefully they have a more experienced jockey on him who knows when to pull him up if need be ... And if the connections indeed withheld water from him intentionally pre-race or overdid the lasix(as Lord Helpus mentioned), then hopefully that doesn't happen again. Hopefully given the close call, the connections have learned some lessons.
I'd like to think there are thorough investigations into situations like this one and actions, when necessary, are taken.
And yes ... the word "hopefully" was intentionally used in redundancy to get a point across ... Call it poetic license.![]()

And for the record HR ... I thoroughly enjoy most of your missives here and agree with them more often than not ... Especially on the political issues ... Thanks for lending detail and sanity to those topics ... I appreciate that you take the time for that when we often know it falls on deaf ears. Many of us know the same thing, but just don't take the time to go into massive detail on it. I appreciate that you do.
Just saying ... In this situation, it's kind of a buzz kill ... As we're choosing to celebrate that he survived rather than choosing to lament that he almost didn't.
Let your hair down once in a while!![]()

Good grief.
