Incredible All-the-Way Triumph For Frankel In the Guineas
15.10 at NMTG1 QIPCO 2000 Guineas (203rd Running) [1m (T)]
Winner: Frankel (GB), c, 3 by Galileo (Ire)
FRANKEL (GB), c, 3, Galileo (Ire)--Kind (Ire), by Danehill.
O-Khalid Abdullah; B-Juddmonte Farms; T-Henry Cecil; J-Tom Queally. Lifetime Record: 6-6-0-0, £493,553.
Some had cast similarities with the great Dubai Millennium (GB) prior to today and Frankel (GB) (Galileo {Ire}) lived up to all the hype and mass of expectation with a ruthless success in the G1 Qipco 2000 Guineas at Newmarket. In front from the outset, Tom Queally let the 1-2 pick use his impressive stride and he had buried all opposition before he reached the quarter pole. Only Dubawi Gold (GB) (Dubawi {Ire}) and Native Khan (Fr) (Azamour {Ire}) could emerge from the pack to chase after that, but Khalid Abdullah's unbeaten colossus was far gone and hit the line six lengths clear of the former, with Native Khan a further half length back with daylight behind him. "He did it better than I even thought he'd do it," Queally said after this breathtaking win. "He just made a show of them and to him that speed feels like a cruising canter."

Frankel delivers tour de force in Guineas
In a sublime display of speed and power, Prince Khalid Abdullah's homebred FRANKEL (Galileo [Ire]) seized command right from the start of Saturday's Two Thousand Guineas (Eng-G1) at Newmarket and ran his rivals ragged. The undefeated champion stormed more than a dozen lengths clear at one stage, and still held a six-length advantage at the wire, posting one of the largest margins of victory in the 203-year history of the Guineas. The 1-2 favorite, Frankel was sent off at even shorter odds than the immortal Nijinsky II, the 4-7 winner of the 1970 Guineas on his way to English Triple Crown glory.

Cecil casts doubt on Frankel going for Dante, Epsom Derby
Henry Cecil on Sunday cast major doubt on the possibility of stretching out FRANKEL (Galileo [Ire]) for a tilt at the 10-furlong Dante S. (Eng-G2) at York on May 12 and the Epsom Derby (Eng-G1) going 1 1/2 miles on June 4.
Following the dramatic six-length success of Khalid Abdullah's unbeaten colt in Saturday's Two Thousand Guineas (Eng-G1) at Newmarket, a possible run in the Dante was touted, but that was all but ruled out by his trainer.

It's a shame they are not running him in the Derby. I think he could have been the first winner of the English Triple Crown since Nijinsky![]()
It's a nice thought but while we could debate the chances of him getting the Derby trip, I'd say the only way he'd see out the Leger trip on likely softish ground at Doncaster would be in a horse box.
But you're right - plenty of 'what if's' by not going to the Derby. I trust Henry though to make the right decision by the horse.
Yes, I agree. It's great to see a trainer thinking of his horse and not money!
Roderic O'Connor, who finished 11th to Frankel in the Guineas, won the Irish 2,000 Guineas today. Third Guineas winner this season by Galileo out of a Danehill mare (and there is a filly, Claiomh Solais, bred on the same cross in the Irish 1,000 Guineas tomorrow).

TEMPS AU TEMPS (Invincible Spirit) is due to clash with Frankel (Galileo [Ire]) in the June 14 St James's Palace S. (Eng-G1) at Royal Ascot. Last seen finishing strongly to be fourth in the Poule d'Essai des Poulains (Fr-G1) at Longchamp May 15, the Mikel Delzangles trainee is one of few challengers to the brilliant Two Thousand Guineas (Eng-G1) winner in the mile contest. "We are definitely going to run him in the St James's Palace S.," Gilles Forien, racing manager to owner Marquesa de Moratalla, told PA Sport Wednesday. "He's in very good form and we could not be happier with him. He has lots of speed and lots of class and I think he will run with great honor at Ascot. You should not be frightened of one horse and we are not frightened of Frankel."

HENRY CECIL believes runaway Qipco 2,000 Guineas winner Frankel is "stronger and more relaxed" than before his emphatic Newmarket victory as he prepares for Tuesday's St James's Palace Stakes.
. . .
"He's stronger than Newmarket and has done very well physically since the race. He's growing up and beginning to relax a lot more and we're very happy with him. Hopefully I've got him as right as you can get a horse for a race like this," said Cecil on Friday.

Looking ahead to 2012, Cecil is eyeing the BC at Santa Anita as the probable finale to Frankel's career:

Ha! Cecil has a CCTV video feed from Frankel's stall to his bedroom!

Khalid Abdullah's undefeated champion Frankel (Galileo) on Friday wowed a throng of onlookers in his final serious workout for next week's Group 1 Queen Elizabeth S. at Ascot. Partnered by regular rider Tom Queally, the bay colt was accompanied by Group 3 scorer Bullet Train (Sadler's Wells) for an early morning date at Newmarket's Watered Gallop and pulled effortlessly clear of that stablemate at the end of the near-mile exercise. Trainer Sir Henry Cecil was also on hand to oversee the same owner's Group 1 Juddmonte International S. respective first and second -- Twice Over (Observatory) and Midday (Oasis Dream) -- in action on the local slopes as the pair continued their preparation for next week's Group 1 Champion S. at the Berkshire venue. Midday worked with a lead horse, while Twice Over was accompanied by regular work partner and Group 3 victor Tranquil Tiger (Selkirk), pleasing big-race pilot Ian Mongan with his effort.
