    Animal Kingdom pedigree

Does anyone have AK's 5X (or more) pedigree? I can't find it on pedigree query. He looks to have some serious outcross and over seas breeding. By a Brazilian Stud out of a German bred mare who is out of an Irish bred mare. Leroi is out of a GB mare. Candy Stripes Is by two French breds. My head is spinning and I love it. ( I had to do some searching to get what I found about is breeding so far.) I wonder how he'll do in our stud market. I know I'm getting ahead of myself.

Must have been doing something wrong

Wow, only inbred to 1 horse once--not sure of the short hand for that!

    Re: Animal Kingdom pedigree

It will be interesting to see how well accepted he is at stud (which is hopefully a long ways off). With all that German/British/Irish blood you would think he wouldn't be popular with American breeders, but then again he's proven on dirt now. It would be nice to get a little bit of an outcross out there, though he is 5x5 to Northern Dancer through his 4x4 to Lyphard.

    Re: Animal Kingdom pedigree

Some articles are misspelling his sire's name ... Leroidesanimaux.

    Not spelled ... Leroidesanimeaux.

You try to buy a vowel in that sire's name and you'll go broke.

    Re: Animal Kingdom pedigree

I LOVE this pedigree. LOVE. IT.

I liked his daddy, Leroi, and I LOVE his momma, and her distance influences. Gotta love that Germany doesn't allow meds of any sort. (good on them.) This is something that Irwin has been very outspoken about - so far it's working.

Back when prominent breeders bred to RACE and not for the sales ring, the most successful North American breeders would import bloodstock from Europe to infuse into our American TBs. Those sire lines are actually the basis of most of our North American racers today.

But over the last 40 years we've been so focused on speed and more speed, especially early speed for those precocious babies, I think we once again need some of that Euro stamina and sturdiness in our bloodlines.

I dunno if AK will appeal to commercial breeders who are all piling onto whatever hot young sire of the moment, but if he wins more major races on dirt, his unfashionable pedigree may become more fashionable. What a useful sire he could be if he has babies that can race on multiple surfaces.

I think we need AK and horses like him; I hope he stays here when his racing days are over (2 years from now please - I can dream).

You don't see Lyphard as much as the other ND sons, though, so do you think AK will be a good cross for the many mares with Danzig and Sadler's Wells?

Actually if you're looking for Lyphard there are plenty of ways to get to him. Among the other stallions currently standing in the U.S. who descend from him are Tiznow, Einstein, Pleasantly Perfect, Flower Alley, Invasor, and Candy Ride.

They are actively trying to secure a deal to shuttle him.... will be interesting to see if they get it.

I agree completely about needing new blood. This is why I love his pedigree so much. I think it's going to take European endurance influence to get another TC winner. How funny would it be if he won the TC this year when everyone is thinking it's another status quo year. Not saying he's going to, but I think it would be ironic.

She's certainly one good looking mare. Downright regal.

Dalicia is very, very pretty. And regal, yes. Her colt is also quite handsome.

I came here for sanity and clear thinking and what do I find but reference to the stallion of doom! Don't do this.
