I really don't think Shackleford is a 1 1/2 mile horse. Wouldn't be surprised if Animal Kingdom doesn't run as Motion is fairly conservative with his horses.
I think it will be some of the Derby horses like Nehro, and then some newcomers.

The question is if ANY of the Derby/Preakness runners going to The Belmont?

Could be Nehro's race in the Belmont.
Frank Lyons on TVG believes that Master of Hounds will come.
(Yeah, I know Frank drinks, or did, but I like him!)
Looks like a Commendable year

I'm guessing Shackleford is going to need a break.

He is referring to Commendable in the 2000 Belmont over Aptitude and Unshaded. That is also the weak 3yo crop that gave us the BC Mile winner and the BC Classic winner.
Alternation should be there and maybe a Derby runner like Brilliant Speed. Master Of Hounds and Nehro make for an interesting race and the gripe king of NY will have plenty of elbow room. Win-win for everybody.
No Animal Kingdom and no Shackleford.

i don't see shackleford winning the belmont because he's by forestry unless he wins with a time of 2:45. nehro wont win, the preakness was his race IMHO. but dont forget jaycito
The Shackleford connections should have been a bit more forthright, saying it was doubtful.
If Bob Costas followed the sport more closely he would have thrown in a qualifier to the question, saying the distance didn't appear to suit Shackleford. Instead, Costas treated it like an NBC concern.
I'd be surprised if Animal Kingdom runs; shocked if Shackleford shows up.

posted this in another thread but from this article it sounds like as long as Animal Kingdom comes out of the race at least as well as he came out of the Derby, they'll go to the Belmont with him.

I think even though Shackleford is a possible for the race, they will probably decide (and should IMHO) to sit this one out with Shackleford. But we'll see, he seems to be coming out of every race better and better. So if he comes out of this training even better..they might go.
Belmont
Dialed In
Animal Kingdom
Brilliant Speed
Nehro
Jaycito
Shackleford
Santiva
Alternation
who else are possibles?
Shackleford should pass.
Animal Kingdom should handle this distance without a problem.
Master Of Hounds might also fare well if he is in.
After running 10F, I don't know if Nehro will still have his "punch" for the remaining 24 or so seconds left in the race.

Possible is also MMM. He lost another shoe in the Preakness. This one was glued on. I think MMM needs a rest.
Belmont Possibles
In addition to Shackleford and Animal Kingdom, the only other Preakness runner currently under serious consideration for the Belmont is Mucho Macho Man, who finished sixth despite losing his left front shoe during the race. Mucho Macho Man was wearing glue-on shoes. Mucho Macho Man lost his right front shoe in the Louisiana Derby, at which time his shoes were affixed with nails.
Or he needs a better farrier...or he needs to have his shoes glued AND nailed on.
MMM is not a 1 1/2 horse. I definitely think he needs a rest too.
