Thread: Filly St Johns River could win the Belmont

Filly St Johns River could win the Belmont

I have watched this filly all year and she has tremendous stamina probably coming from the two Belmont winners in the bottom of the pedigree. She ran right by Plum Pretty at the wire n the Oaks. This is th year too because there is nothing to be afraid of. It is about time US racing wakes up and starts running fillies against colts too. I think a few fillies would have had a shot in that pedestrian Preakness today.

Yes it would be nice after the past few years. OT but anybody know what's up with R Heat Lighting.

I'd love to see another filly win after Rags to Riches, but i think it's a longshot St.John's River will be in the gate for the Belmont

At this rate...I think there are quite a few fillies I could see doing well against this crop. I would like to see Zazu in the Belmont. But I honestly don't think either her or St Johns River could win it. I think there are some colts coming into it that will like the 1 1/2 better.

I would love to see St. John's River in the Belmont. But doubt her trainer, Andy Leggio, would run her there. Wonder where she will go next??? I think maybe in the Filly T.C. races and later the Alabama at Saratoga. Leggio has had some nice fillies run up there before. Happy Ticket ran well for Leggio, so i'm sure he's game to put SJR in the big races, too.

How about she runs in a race she could win? She would get drowned in the Belmont.

I've followed her for a little while now and was very happy with her Oaks, although she ran a little better than I hoped and nearly beat my Plum Pretty. I think he'd have a shot in the Belmont given her finish in the Oaks.

Another filly I like for the Belmont is Royal Delta. I'm surprised there isn't more talk about her. I know she ran a day earlier, but same track almost the same distance and Royal Delta would have been right there with Shackelford time-wise.

    Royal Delta 1:49.60
    Shackleford 1:56.47

Her sire is Belmont winner Empire Maker and her dam sire is Belmont winner AP Indy.

There's no way Mott is running this filly back at 12 furlongs off of 3 weeks rest. It wouldn't matter if she was by Stage Door Johnny out of a Herbager mare. He's not that kind of conditioner and knows it's not the right spot for what there is to be gained. I played her Friday, and she's a very nice filly, but I'd also like to be able to watch her run this Summer. If she races in the Belmont I think there's a chance that never happens at the same level. And the trainer knows that as well.

Both Royal Delta and Plum Pretty are pointing for the Mother Goose on June 25th at Belmont. Hopefully this will happen.

I think this race was once a 12f race like the Belmont. I was thinking SJR in the Belmont because there is no longer a 12f race for fillies. I think it would cost her 100k.

It was pretty much always nine furlongs but was moved to 8 1/2 last year when the CCA Oaks was moved to Saratoga and cut back to 9 furlongs. The CCA Oaks has been 12 furlongs at different times.
