Rapid Redux is now 10 for 10 in 2011

Just won at Mountaineer. Not in classy company, but he seems to be a twice-monthly paycheck for his connections. It's his 12th win in a row, at 5 different tracks, from 5 furlongs to 1 1/8 miles. Comments include "easily", "much best", "ridden out", "handily", you get the picture Soon he won't be eligible for starter allowances anymore, or he'll end up scaring off all the competition . He's a fun horse to watch.

Hey ... At ANY level, 12 in a row is damn impressive! Here's to the streak continuing.

I'll have to start watching this pony now. Thanks for letting us know.

Thanks for the heads up, Miss W. I actually enjoy watching the Mountaineer races. The horses aren't the best but I respect what they do. They're professionals-- I have yet to see any claimer at that track lose his mind while being saddled or loaded in the gate.

Just looked up his pedigree; it's quite nice. Tail female to the fabulous mare Cosmah.

THIS ONE GOES TO ELEVEN! And 13 wins in a row.

Huge stride on that horse, and he looks like he's cantering compared to the others. I don't blame his connections for not wanting to move him up-it's free money-but his starter allowance eligibility is bound to run out sometime.

Maybe a nice plan ol' Allowance race would suit him fine. =P There are so many low-level stakes at the little tracks that he could probably start making a name for himself ringing up good placings there. He's clearly right at home in this class, but he's such a cool horse.
And listening to some big out a' town jasper, hearing him tell about horse-race gamblin'.
Not a wholesome trottin' race, no, but a race where they sit down right on a horse!

What a remarkable animal. And to think he can sprint and go two turns.

Oh, I think they'll create new conditions to get fields for him.

I'm not sure what new conditions you would create to get competition for a horse who has dominated protected competition, and I am less sure why you would want to.

George and Lori Hall got away running him once for $5,000 last May; then they tried it again and lost him at Monmouth in August. Mountaineer runs a 2010-2011 starter at that level, which he's good for through the year. Kevin Fields took him at Monmouth, and tried to go up the ladder with him, but it didn't work. In October, he dropped him to $6250 at Penn National, and Bob Cole took him. Cole has turned him into a personal ATM machine, but has not offered him for a tag since December, so he will not be eligible for Claiming Crown races.

I'd love to see him moved up in class. Certainly Mountaineer, Pen, Parx or Monmouth have lesser stake he can try. It's not as if Rapid Redux needs to continue this streak to surpass MOW, Z or PP.

Gosh, I remember him being on the TC trail for a nanosecond.

I think a more realistic question would be whether or not he could compete for $25,000. He's claimer; the question is how good a claimer.

Lava Man was a claimer at one time too.

Yes. At the beginning of his career. He began running for Mcl12,500, went up to Mcl20,000 and from there to Mcl32,000; he then moved to MSW races where he graduated to race in allowance and stakes races, before dropping back into claiming events twice: $62,500 and $50,000.

Rapid Redux, on the other hand, has run for a tag 13 times, winning six of them. The six wins have come for: $25,000; $10,000; $9,000; $8,000; and twice for $5,000. The $25,000 win came on January 10 of 2010 and was the second win of his life; 16 of his 17 subsequent victories have come at the expense of opponents who have started for $10,000 or less. He is one of the best stories in racing this year; he is not a stakes horse.
