Thank you for those great pics - the first one especially is really cool! I am SO glad to hear Gem is doing well. Just out of interest - WHAT is he eating in that second pic????

Green apple treats. That one was actually taken at Del Mar - I clicked on the wrong photo. lol Gem loves his treats and I have yet to find anything he won't eat...except carrots that are not fresh and crunchy. hehe I buy him a large bag of baby carrots every day I visit him. :-) He's such an awesome horse and absolutely loves getting visitors!!!

Here's a video I took of the Gem in his stall last weekend ... Not too exciting ... He's just eating right after he was groomed ... and the lighting isn't so hot ...

But hey ... It's The Gem!!

Gem certainly seems like a horse who LOVES his food and attention and hamming it up for the camera

I wish they'd run the guy down here again sometime.

Well ... Maybe he'll give The Hollywood Gold Cup or The Pacific Classic a try.

    One can hope.

Congrats to the Gemster, his connections, and everyone who is a fan and loves this wonderful guy! He will be racing down south this year. It's a typical move with this group to run their horses in easier spots first time off a lay-off or when a horse needs a confidence booster, and GG has worked out well for them.

" . . . was only asked enough to hold the win." Love to see that in a chart. Three cheers for The Gemster!

    Re: Awesome Gem!!!

    Congrats to AG!

    >Confidently handled by Russell Baze, Awesome Gem took back after the start and raced fourth in the five-horse field as the 9-10 choice until the quarter pole. Angled slightly off the rail on the far turn, he slipped through on the inside of one rival in upper stretch to reach contention and then moved to the outside of Positive Response near the furlong pole. He inched clear while asked by Baze to do only enough to get the job done.<
