Thread: Lael horses (inclu Nicanor and Lentenor) to new trainer

Lael horses (inclu Nicanor and Lentenor) to new trainer

Don't think I'd seen this here.

Apparently Lael has moved all of their horses with Matz (including Nicanor and Lentenor) to Leigh Delacour.

I find this confusing. Wonder why they made the trainer switch and not even to a more high profile trainer...

I read the blog and am a little confused as well. It really doesn't give the reason. It looks as though they moved all their horses than were trained by Matz. Do they still have horses with Tagg?

Doesn't necessarily mean that there was a dramatic event. Sometimes someone just wants to go in a differenct direction. Not necessarily a blow-up, not necessarily a Barry-Irwin type comment (thinking post-Derby).

Maybe they wanted to shake things up with their stable, and give a helping hand to a promising young trainer who'd be able to devote lots of hands-on time to each horse. I don't know how up to date the data in the blog is, but, based on that, her record to date isn't bad:

    619 Starts, 120 Wins, 82 Seconds, 108 Thirds, Earning's of $2,475,469.

I seem to remember they sent the newest brother, Margano?, to Tagg.

I find it a little confusing too.to me, Matz will always be associated w/the Barbaro legacy.I'm wondering if the Jacksons thought a little trainer switch might improve the brothers records?

Leigh's husband has worked for Christophe Clement.

The Team Valor barn at Fair Hill is where they (Delacours) used to be.

And, she worked for Graham Motion for 10 years. Between the 2 of them, lots of good experience...

Who is Leigh Delacor? She sounds like a Hogwarts professor.

I don't think they were having the best of luck with Atz when it came to the health of their horses. Sounds like Tagg has moved up to their number one trainer and they will use this woman (excellent trainer, based on what I have seen at Tampa) in the future. Tagg got Margano and is friends with Gretchen Jackson so I doubt he ever loses their horses. Personally I think he is a superior trainer to Matz. Any guy that can find Funny Cide and Showing Up for what he paid for them really has an eye for horses. Only Baffert has a better eye for horses if you ask me. If you like the gregarious guy go with Baffert. If you like the all business guy go with Tagg.

In all fairness to Matz, the expectations for these Barbaro siblings is absurd. I wonder if the personality of Tagg is going to work if this Margano gets on the TC trail and disappoints. Talk about a pressure cooker.

True enough. And because of that association, her dad has Dr. Brendler as his hunter.

I was told (by someone who frequents this board and is a personal friend IRL) that Motion has been referring potential clients to Leigh. I wondered if maybe Lael approached Graham and were sent to Leigh?

I'm sure the horses will do well. For all his accolades, Matz (who gets VERY high end stock) has had only "average" results over the last decade, Barbaro notwithstanding.

I guess the Jackson's felt that a change was needed. Maybe there was a falling out, maybe not. Maybe there is a personal reason for the switch. I guess we'll ust have to see.

Totally agree here. I wonder if the hoopla over them wasn't bothering Matz just a little. I wonder if he got more visitors to his barn than he'd like.

Still sounds like the new trainer is a good one.

Had NOTHING to do with any hoopla or any extra visitors to his barn.
