The Real Mayo (Bernardini daughter out of G1 winner Mayo on the Side)

We just claimed this filly today. She'll be sent to the farm to let down and will be bred next year.

I love her hip and she's an attractive type. I think she'll mature into a beautiful mare. I couldn't pass her up at the claiming price.

Nobody said giving Kirstie Alley a colonic would be easy.

NICE!!! I remember Mayo On the Side; I actually think I have some photos of her from when she ran against Azeri at Keeneland. Good luck with this one!

Good luck! She's been on my Stable Mail forever and I couldn't believe they offered her for $10,000. If I had extra money burning a hole in my pocket, I would have claimed her too.

    Thanks, guys.

Pronz, I've been following her and a Smarty Jones filly and I figured with this page was better but the SJ is much the better race mare. I really wasn't looking to claiming anything but at 10k, I thought she'd be worth the gamble.

Pics of her as a yearling: http://foaltrack.com/FoalDetail.aspx...mages/Foal/686

She was kinda fat then. Congrats on the claim.

Congratulations on a nice claim! Any thoughts yet on who you might breed her to?

She was on my radar too but not jumping into the business just now. Congrats! Very nice!

    Thanks, everyone.

Not a clue, T. I like the idea of sending her something with Unbridled though. You get all that great Aspidistra and Cequillo blood from him and the Quiet American in Bernardini. Plus I don't mind doubling up on Fappiano and like the idea of adding more Mr. P to the mix since she's inbred to Seattle Slew and all that Frizette blood is a positive in my book.

But physical will be paramount here. And I'll go proven.

She should be fun to play with and who knows, I may just flip her next year.

She's lovely Jas, I like her very much. I know that Harlington is not proven as of yet,(at least on the track) but then again, look at Sryiana. You get a A+ on True Knicks, but I'm sure you already knew that Good luck with her

You're definitely not obligated but it'd be great if you keep us posted when you breed her etc.

    Thanks in advance!

I will certainly keep everyone up to date. I probably over-share here when it comes to the mares and foals. lol

Tom Fool in the pedigree twice, would be awesome if you could find a stallion with Ribot

There is nothing I have ever heard of as over-sharing on TBC as far as you are concerned. I LOVE all your updates and pictures. I usually wish there are more. As an always wanted to be, hope to someday be owner/breeder, I get to live vicariously through the owners and breeders who privilege us hopefuls with their horses.

She has a pulled gluteal muscle, which would account for her having decent form and then losing it quickly. Evidently its quite prevalent in horses who are working/running over synthetics.

She'll be fine but it does explain a few things.

Re: The Real Mayo (Bernardini daughter out of G1 winner Mayo on the Side)

Anecdotally speaking (ie, we and everyone else we know who has racehorses) have many more soft tissue injuries on synthetics than on dirt.

What's interesting to me is that the filly's former trainer apparently overlooked the injury--or didn't think that she was important enough to either do diagnostics on or to give some time off.

Re: The Real Mayo (Bernardini daughter out of G1 winner Mayo on the Side)

    Agree.

Eric said it's one of those injuries that unless you're really familiar with it from synthetic training, it's actually hard to pick up. Eric trains most his horses on the Keeneland surface so he's encountered it quite a bit. Today when she was jogging it became apparent.

Here's some photos of her from today.

When she matures and fills out a little she is going to be really, really lovely.

I'm still amazed they'd dump a filly with that pedigree into claimers, and cheap ones with that, rather than either a) check her thoroughly to see if something was wrong, or b) breed her and sell her as a broodmare.

Re: The Real Mayo (Bernardini daughter out of G1 winner Mayo on the Side)

Wow, what a nice claim! Maybe a match to Broken Vow for the Unbridled cross. Candy Ride also gets you the Fappiano cross... or Street Boss/Sense/Cry, depends on how much you wanna spend there! Can't wait to see who you choose.

Do you plan to heal her up and try to race her again at all before next season?
