From what I've heard, it was more WinStar's decision to retire him, but when Casner was bought out he still owned the majority interest in Lion and made the decision to continue to race him.

Mine from DRF says all weather. And Equibase entries says the same.

American Lion got fried keeping up with Indian Firewater on the front end. He didn't do too badly, he just looked like he needed the race. He should improve off this one.

Agreed. He was even making up ground on the 3rd place finisher in the stretch, so he wasn't spitting the bit or anything. Next time out should be a better race for him.

I have always felt American lion was better on dirt he doesn't seem to have the turn of foot on the all weather.
