On another board, someone wants to know if she can go into a stud's field and pet him.
I'll watch. I'll even call EMS first, save them time.
I swear.![]()

That mindset is pervasive here, as well.
..."Why yes you can!...just walk into his paddock, and say 'heeeeerre Dynaformer!'"..
Someone on another board once got upset because he wasn't allowed to give Storm Cat a hugHowever, a Facebook acquaintance posted a picture of herself hugging Eskendereya. Some stallions are certainly more tolerant than others.
I think I read somewhere that visitors aren't even allowed to get near Dynaformer's fence. He's just that territorial.
You wouldn't have to tell me but once to steer clear of him.

There's two stallions at my trainer's barn. One is a sweet arab that you can do anything you want to and loves attention. He's an endurance sire who sires good headed smart sensible and talented endurance horses. He's petable and likes people. And likes to take carrots out of people's hands.
The second is a hot headed and not so nice thoroughbred stallion who sires sporthorses. He produces great dressage horses but is not the cuddly horse and is hard to handle unless you know what you are doing. They have a do not handle sign on his paddock. People keep thinking that it's okay to pet him since he "looks sooo innocent and sweet". They had to put him in a paddock out back to keep people from petting him.
I remember being at TC and a guest wanted to pet Dynaformer, the guide said that he was mean and the guest said something along the lines of he looks sweet.
We were there to look at Flower Alley and they were grooming him in his stall, I saw the look on his face and there was no way in h3ll I would want to pet him.
I don't own my horses, they own me.
Dynaformer got real aggressive at me just standing in front of his stall, but he chilled out after a minute (maybe because I wasn't intimidated, thank God for those bars!)
But you couldn't pay me to get in the same field. I don't think I'd dare pet him tied up and sedated...
This is not limited to stallions. There was a thread on COTH horse recently about the Maryland portion of Assateague (sp?) with the 'wild' ponies. Tourists are putting their putting their babies on the ponies for pictures and other equally naive and potentially tragic interactions. In the course of the thread, people from other parts of the country weighed in with stories of tourists putting children on buffalo and wild donkeys for pictures, etc. Didn't someone jump into a bear enclosure at a zoo within the last few years because they wanted to hug the bear?
Many people are completely divorced from the reality of farm and wild animals; heck people don't even have respect for the power to cause injury by dogs and cats.
True enough- I gave Silver Charm, CQ, and Unbridled hugs. Would have loved to love all over Smarty- but was preparing to met the ladies in Uraguay. Horse Chestnut was very, very silly, and I pulled on his tongue which he kept sticking out. Slew of Gold was a big ol' teddy bear. You couldn't pay me enough money to go into a stall/field with Dynaformer- something about they way he watches you with his eyes- he looks right through you.

he's so cute!![]()
Skip Away's former groom at Hopewell told the story that the stallion manager there could hug Skip. He really liked the stallion manager a lot, more than anyone else. The groom tried to hug him one time and got bitten.
I wouldn't even ask, even though there are probably stallions who'd allow it. Not worth the risk. I'm happy to give them a pat on the shoulder and maybe a mint.
In the case of CQ, I was encourged to do it. Was even allowed to groom him- can't seem to locate the pics now, may turn up when I move(maybe soon). I always asked each time, certain horses you can just tell there is no way.

OK, forgive me if this sounds like a stupid question, but who is "CQ"??
Oh Lordy, I remember that. I don't think I have ever been so infuriated with a "fan" as after I read through that whole scenario. What a screaming fool. No wonder I could never bring myself to become an active member of that forum.
Made an appointment with Overbrook during BC and was proud of the fact that they'd made it appear as if "they were just in from Texas"; i.e., we're breeders and am interested in breeding to the horse.
Then get there and act like an a$$ ... and then had the nerve to complain about the stallion manager ... which was hilarious because wasn't he on that forum at the time. Anyone that devious, and stupid to boot, deserves to have people throw rocks at him ... not that it would have mattered. I don't think the guy would have noticed. I think his wife was actually supposed to be a pretty nice woman.
