    love the talking heads

TVG has some of the worst handicappers, least originality and the most like lemmings out there. They talk about all the horses individually in ISOLATION and rarely look at the interaction of today's contest which will, with their individual form cycle, NEVER happen just the same way again.

They can continually miss the boat and keep the fans in the dark as it is a parimutuel game, but you would think that somewhere amongst them someone would see the light: a race is an INTERACTION of abilities not a review of their abilities without the stress and effect of the others.

Funny thing about television...no matter if you're the attractive weather lady on the 6:00 news or the late night comedian, your job is to sell adverstising and if you can't do it you're out of the business.

TVG hosts have the added responsibility of attracting clients to their ADW service and churning money into the pools. To the best of my knowledge, they are the best at this showing something like a 17% increase last year when just about every other aspect of the game was down, I don't think there's any financial comparison with their competition that doesn't wind up with them on top.

I say thumbs up for an overall job well done, thanks!

Their job is to give you details on the horses. Your job is to choose between the horses.

I'll say one thing ... I don't watch TVG unless I have to, but I had to give up on TwinSpires. When they took over YouBet, I tried .... I did, I tried to stay with them, but they were awful. I like TVG's site. Easy to use. Everything is right there.

Gin....after the initial period, I find Twin Spires is fine. You just have to use the option that really is exactly the same as youbet was.

Regarding the talking heads, the only reason I think TVG beats HRTV is because you can only get HRTV if you have Dish Network.

My choice for viewing is to record TVG for the afternoon and watch the tote board on Youbet (Twin Spires) and bring up TVG for the actual races since I would rather watch a 42" screen than 23" one. Then I can go watch replays on TVG also

Back in the dark ages I was a racetrack regular and then migrated over to a simulcast facility closer to home, and the one thing I miss about both of those venues was the good natured bantering amongst friends talkin horses, it can get a little lonely now on my comfy couch at home.

So, while Todd, Simon et al might not be your cup of tea, I tend to think of them as the next table over from mine at the simulcast, sometimes interesting to listen to, to laugh with or at, and share the highs and lows of day at the races.

I tried, Slew .... I used the Youbet version and I found that they never updated jockey changes, track conditions. One day, I was listening to HRTV tell me that a rider was off his mounts and yet the screen still had that rider listed. I tried one of the other versions which I really didn't like so I eventually just stopped visiting the site.

FYI, I have Comcast and I have HRTV (it's part of the digital plan along with a ton of other stuff ... $5/mo extra I think), but I think that depends on the area because I do know people who also have Comcast, but don't get HRTV.

TVG's site seems to work quite nicely and I can watch most of the races on TV, somewhere, so I didn't even sign up for the video. Honestly, even if I can't a place to watch the race somewhere, that won't be the reason my horse doesn't win. ;-)

I don't have HRTV wher I am, is "Jockey-room Joanne" Jones still working there?

I do have TVG, and find their west-coast bias just as exasperting as always..

Not so.I have verizon fios in NYC and I get TVG,HRTV and the NYRA network.I hate TVG but am forced to watch because they cover tracks that HRTV doesn't cover.Last week TVG and their 'talking heads' really hurt me.I was in a handicapping contest on line where I had to watch Woodbine,Saratoga and Monmouth and Del Mar.Saratoga just finished the big stake race and I'm scrambling to handicap Woodbine's 10th and those effin morons at TVG....instead of talking about Saratoga...or MP...or Woodbine...are going on and on about a trainer at Del Mar and his effin fedora.I couldn't stand listening to them so I went back to the NYRA network while I handicapped.I go back to TVG and see there is 3 minutes to the Woodbine race (you have to get your bet in with a minute to post).I click on my Woodbine bet and get shut out.The horse won and I would have been in 5th place with two Del Mar races left in the contest.....with a shot to win one of three seats that day to the NRC handicapping championship in Vegas. As it turns out I missed on the two Del Mar races
so I wouldn't have been in the top three anyway...but I learned my lesson.Even with 47 windows opened up on the computer...don't rely on TVG for anything useful.

Very curious that somebody hasn't started up an East Coast version, as TVG's proximity to Hollywood Park is about 9 furlongs so the bias is somewhat understandable.

If there were an East Coast Company they'd have, what about 50 racetracks to be biased about rather than just the 3 in Southern California, I'm sure they'd do a fine job.

p.s. First post at Del Mar as advertised is 5p.m. EST, speaking of exasperating!

Bopper I get TVG and HRTV in a sports movie package that costs an extra $17/month through Verizon Fios....I think it's offered in any region...TVG channel 315...HRTV channel 316...

Really? TwinSpires imported the YouBet? interface, so it's just like YouBet! Not saying that TVG isn't easy to use, I've never tried it.

What programming did you complain about? I'm in Maryland pay $5.95 for HRTV. TVG is part of the regular line-up. I need to lower my bill.
