It doesn't. He's absolutely gorgeous in person. Super Saver is also a lot more handsome than his picture shows. Spring At Last's isn't all that great either. The rest I think are ok, not the best but they aren't as bad as those three . . .

Following the photo link for Demon Warlock, he appears to be producing. He was Washington State Horse of the Year in 2004. A little further searching, shows he is noted as a descendent of Gallant Man, bred by the Aga Khan and Aly Khan. According to the pedigree site, there aren't many descendents from this line. And the stable site notes DW is the only active stallion in North American descending from Gallant Man.

Gallant Man was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1987. He died in 1988 in Kentucky. 34 years old.

From Wikipedia~ "Gallant Man was standing a little over fifteen hands and was afflicted with bad ankles."

Yet he was known for speed and endurance. He lost the Kentucky Derby when Bill Shoemaker misjudged the finish line and stood up in his stirrups too soon, slowing the colt down, and Iron Liege raced on to win. GM went on to win the Belmont by 8 lengths, beating Bold Ruler and setting a track record only Secretariat replaced.

"Retired after his 1958 season with a splint problem in his left foreleg, Gallant Man stood at Kentucky's Spendthrift Farm, where he sired 52 stakes winners. He did even better as a broodmare sire. Genuine Risk (from one of his daughters) and Gallant Bloom were two of his breeding triumphs." (Wikipedia)

    Kind of interesting story.

I'll take Coalplay anyday. He is in proportion and has lovely balance.

Haha, I was just about to say that Bullsbay looks really upright and seems to be a touch long-backed. Just goes to show how much opinions can differ!
What is it about single-toed ungulates running around an oval for approximately 90 seconds that inspires people to bet billions of dollars and devote their entire lives to the activity?

The second time I looked at it I wasn't as impressed. What caught my eye was the muscling around his neck and shoulders.

On second look Neko Bay is the stand out this time

    I don't care for Coalplay's underline.

Neko Bay is the stand out for me in that group, too.

Pyro is maturing really nicely. Looking at Lucky looks good as well, and will probably look even better in a year or two (though he is a tad too front heavy for my taste).

I second everything in your whole post

Monarchos is a lovely boy, even when he's a little on the chunky side

Monarchos has a cute pony personality, too. He was such a good boy while we were standing there.
