    With Anticipation (gr IIT)

Nice little 2YO turf race that leads into the Breeders Cup.

Love Captain Webb in this spot. He's already won at the distance and on this course. Next choices would be Fox Rules and State of Play.

The favorite is Dullahan.. Even the Score half brother to Mine That Bird. Still a maiden and favored? Odd.

I like Optimizer...he has won over the distance as well....and looks like ppl are forgetting that.

The M/L I'm looking at has Capt. Webb at 3/1 and Dullahan at 7/2. I'd expect Webb to go off as the favorite; the horse he beat last out came back and broke his maiden pretty decisively at the Spa on Saturday. I'd think that Optimizer will probably get bet down off the M/L too, since Coach Royal came back and ran a decent 2nd in the same race on Sat.
Some nicely-bred horses in here; be interested to see how State of Play and Sportswriter do on the stretch out.

Pretty much every horse in here is coming in off a single career start. Dullahan has the most experience with three previous races.
What is it about single-toed ungulates running around an oval for approximately 90 seconds that inspires people to bet billions of dollars and devote their entire lives to the activity?

And Dullahan's last effort, when he was a runner-up over the Saratoga turf, was very, very good.

I struck gold with Fox Rules in his maiden, I'm sticking with him here.

Really looking forward to this race because we get to run our $4k gelding, Two Months Rent! As you may have guess we named him that because it cost the equivalent of two months' rent where I live right now to buy him. Have pictures of him when he was a young'un in this thread...

Don't think he'll be one of the favorites but the guy tries his heart out every time. Hopefully, he shows up again on Thursday!

Oh, I saw him when I was at Saratoga, both during the morning workouts and in a race! Really nice looking horse, that tail is very distinctive. Best of luck to you!

(have to say I like Optimizer as well, even if I'm STILL kicking myself for overlooking him in his debut)

EDIT: Looks like I got some pics of him:

Well, I think our boy displaced today after being bounced around pretty hard early in the race. He had enough air to make a bit of a middle move but couldn't sustain it at all. Glad to see Optimizer ran a close 2nd since we were right with him last time out...at least it suggests our last race had some form to it.

    Back to maiden company!

He is having a good year. And it is crazy that in his first two crops, he has already won this race twice, last year with Soldat and then of course this year. Pretty cool

State of Play goes wire to wire in With Anticipation

After getting away with a slow early pace, Team Valor International's STATE OF PLAY (War Front) had more than enough left to fend off Optimizer (English Channel) in Thursday's $151,000 With Anticipation S. (G2) at Saratoga. The Graham Motion trainee remained perfect from two starts while booking his passage to the November 5 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf (G1).
