    WTBA sale this Tuesday

    http://www.washingtonthoroughbred.co...er&Mixed11.htm

Not too many horses, but there looked to be some good quality shipping in yesterday.

Yearling photos are available at the above link as well as on the WTBOA's Facebook page. http://www.facebook.com/#!/media/set...3955291&type=1

#61 was super cute last night being bored. Both she and the other Harbor the Gold filly #126 were just massive.

I am in love with hip #36, bay filly by Thunder Gulch o/o Moscow Symphony. Gorgeous filly!! They seem to have some nice yearlings in the mix for sure.

    (I'm also crazy about #1, #9 and #31! )

Are you working it this year? I am sooo glad that I'm not sitting in the T-barns in 85 degree weather on the asphalt, but I do miss it.

What worries me are all the broodmares entered who haven't been bred in 2-3 years. (Several added late to the paddock session of the sale.) They all looked very well. The big gray 3YO gelding was nice looking. #305. Hopefully the hunter-jumper folks will be out in force!

I was supposed to be working this year but some things came up unexpectedly. So if possible I might get out there tomorrow or Tuesday but it's up in the air at this point. I miss not being there, this would be my 5th year I think (working for El Dorado Farms). I have do agree the heat/ asphalt combo doesn't sound like a good time though! Lol! There really are some nice babies in the photos, hopefully it will be a great sale! I do plan on working it next year if all goes well.

City to City (G2 winner just won the Palomar at Del Mar) came from this sale.

Heard there were a couple of eighty-granders, which is great. Also heard that it's WAY up from the past few years.

    Re: WTBA sale this Tuesday

    http://www.washingtonthoroughbred.co...11SYMSsmry.htm

$105k for the Candy Ride to top
$82k for the full to Noosa Beach, looks like Doris Harwood will get him, too, as Alhadeff (puke) bought him
    $67k Katowice-Nightatmisskittys
    $50k Dehere-Crafty Diva
    $43k Sea of Secrets - Carrie's A Jewel
$40k Harbor the Gold - Silver City Lilly (met this one on Saturday night, she was a doll)

Unfortunately, no mention of the mixed-session yearlings, which worries me.

    Re: WTBA sale this Tuesday

I am a bit biased because we were blessed to have a very good sale (for us), but overall I was amazed at the transformation from last year. Not only was it up 20% the whole atmosphere from day 1 was different. We were incredibly busy starting Saturday morning as were the other consigners that I chatted with. With the exception of a few short slow breaks we were hopping the entire weekend. Everyone was much more optomistic (both buyers and sellers) and it showed in the sales results. There were a LOT of really nice horses there and I am super excited because my boss bought hip 67, first time in a LONG time that he's bought in WA. I'm really not sure why things went so well overall, but am not complaining.

    Re: WTBA sale this Tuesday

It would be interesting to scope out the reason for this sale doing so well. Obviously every sale needs good individuals and clearly this one had them. Emerald is doing great economically and perhaps that is bringing some excitement back to the local racing scene.

But how much I wonder is because the California breeding program has just tanked. There are only 2700 Calbred 2 year olds out there and 2400 mares bred in the state this year. The pool of horses that supply the West Coast tracks with a significant number of runners has almost dried up. Maybe Washington will benefit from that.
