Re: Midweek Mayhem - 9/7 (BOTS) @ Remington Park

Welcome back once again race fans to universally renowned Upside Downs, the track where anything can happen and usually does!
And now it's time for the extra special event all our fervent patrons have been looking forward to with keen anticipation. Our first ever steeplechase!

Plus many thanks to St. Dominic's Pizza for sponsoring this unusual race and making it all possible! I'm sure some of you have already spotted the St. Dominic's van, with it's unique steeple on the roof, down by the winners circle, so go on down and purchase a slice or a whole pie. That's St. Dominic's, the pizza you'll pray for!

Now if you'll flip over your programs and take a look at the back cover you'll see some of the obstacles our runners will have to contend with over the course of theitr 2 and 1/2 mile journey. Aside from the regular fences we have the Fire Pit, the Whirlpool, the Moving Fence and the Spikes. It'll take nimble feet and quick thinking along with rugged determination and keen persistence to complete this contest, but I'm sure at least some of our equine warriors are up to the task!

And now the horsies are approaching the starting line. Don't think any have gone over the jumps before, and some seem a bit put out on seeing the barriers and lack of a starting gate. Dusty has broken out in a sweat and Into the Mystic is rolling her lovely eyes while looking at the 1st fence. Not a good sign for the fillies as this is also another of our BOTS series where the fems are battered by their betters, and the bettors are taking note as the odds plunge on the boys!

Now Horse Crazy Gal is causing a ruckus but a stern glance from her compatriot Ruffian sees her settle down and approach the tape, though somewhat gingerly. The colts, unruffled, are in good order and the starter has them OFF!

A slow pace initially with Real Quiet and Dusty leading the field over the first fence, but here comes the Fire Pit! But no problem as all are over before the the flames shoot up! Another regular fence cleared and here comes the Whirlpool! Ruffian is first over and the rest of the field is suddenly drenched by a sheet of water, and Dusty goes down!

It's a closely bunched pack taking the next jump but here comes the Moving Fence! Will it go back or forward, up or down? There's no telling, but here they come, and Ruffian clears it with a mighty leap as the rest are hindered by an upward thrust! Tiger Dancer took the worst of that and stumbled, losing many lengths, and ROC has tumbled down too!

Ruffian has opened up a huge lead now and clears the next regular fence and is over the Spikes before the rest are even near, but now they come on and Into the Mystic and Real Quiet are both spiked! They limp on but it'll take true courage for either to finish now!

One lap to go and Ruffian is in control! Here come the Fire pit and...OH NO! Criminal Type is flamed! His tail is on fire and his testes are toasted!

BUT LOOK AT THAT! He takes off like a veritable comet, trailing a flame trail no amount of beer and burritos could ever possibly match! CT is off like a rocket and Ruffian can only look at his burning butt and dream of what might have been!

It's all over but the frying now as CT crosses the finish line and veers to the left to dunk his burning backside in the infield pond, the last two fences burned to bits as he crashed through them!

Ruffian has to settle for 2nd and it's KD straggling home in 3rd, with the rest nursing their injuries here and there along the track!

Certainly a night to remember, including the embers, here at Upside Downs. Maybe we'll do this again sometime if we can find horsies stupid enough to take up the challenge!

    And I'm betting we will!

    GOOD NIGHT RACE FANS!

Who said CT was going to "lay down the law"? Hey, that was me! Congrats CT on capturing BOTS Wednesday and upholding the Colts reputation as a force to be reckoned with. Hope you can find an all steeplechase card next week. Good luck on a three peat (pending Ruffians approval of the term). Nice try Ruff but you ran into a buzzsaw in this weeks Midweek Mayhem. Kudos for finishing third KD but your recap was a runaway winner. Nicely written, awesome and most entertaining.

The always vigilant Ruffian has been kind enough to yell at...er, I mean inform me of a few minor scoring changes. Not only did I get the wrong total for everyone but myself but there was also a tie for last place. Ruff will contact those involved and a decision will be made on who gets the scoring honors for next week.
Maybe our 1st BOTS boxing match could settle things?

As for my ineptitude, I'm blaming the Republicans. Watching that debate last night would scramble anyone's brain.

    CORRECTED TOTALS:

    CRIMINAL TYPE > $164.70
    (R9 SCR added alt: $5.10)

    RUFFIAN > $69.60

    K D > $50.90

    R Q > $48.00

    ITM > $37.50

    H C G > $37.40

    TIGER DANCER > $34.80

    DEAD HEAT:
    DUSTY + ROC = $23

Don't be so happy yet. CT might chose a 19 race Australian card that starts at 3 AM <grin>.

Just for the record, ROC scores next week. Dusty did manage to beat him.

Alas for me the Whirlpool hazard struck after the race was over and I had some bad flooding here yesterday. Mostly books lost and a hell of a mess to clean up, so I'm a possible scratch for Saturday. Will be there if I can.

Re: Midweek Mayhem - 9/7 (BOTS) @ Remington Park

    FROM CRIMINAL TYPE:

    I Guess the saying -

'Whatever it takes' could apply here if having 'burned testes' is an
example of trying to Win for the Colts!

I knew my connections were considering Gelding but - burning em off?

Wouldnt that be considered cruel and unusual punishment? (Jail Time?)

Well Im happy to report that I am alive and well without serious lower
region damage other than a back up supply of ice packs in freezer!

Now if anyone tells me to 'stay cool'
I can tell them you have no idea how cool I am

    And RQ -
I will be looking to find a steeplechase event without burning fire pits
or spikes - once was enough of that stuff!

Tryng to burn the Filly brigade turned out to be hotter than I thought

And what a fun race call that was KD
hope you can lose more often so we can have entertainment as side dish
    with results! great stuff
