A few steeplechasers to add. Be Certain for one is a really cute guy. Coal Dust won this year's Maryland Grand National and of course there is Good Night Shirt.

I love this one Dianne took of him:
Gold Cup possible for Rail Trip

Rail Trip will be considered for the Gold Cup, trainer Ron Ellis said Sunday.

Rail Trip stalked pacesetter Ball Four to early stretch of the Californian, took the lead with a furlong remaining and was beaten three-quarters of a length. The Californian was his first start at 1 1/8 miles. The Gold Cup is 1 1/4 miles.

"My first thought is to run him in the Gold Cup," Ellis said. "I think without Ball Four he would have won."
Doesn't he? :azn: As our own Kennedy writes in his blog:
Tip O'the Cap: This goes to Mary Hartmann and Presious Passion for putting together all the pieces that have transformed this horse from an inconsistent longshot specialist to a versatile high class performer that hates to lose and is not very easy to beat. Presious Passion is now 5-3-2-0 in his last 5 races. Those 5 races came at 4 different racetracks on turf and dirt at 4 different distances. The furthest he was beaten during this little run was 3/4 of a length on the dirt. His latest victory in the Monmouth Stakes was extremely hard fought but he prevailed as he has so many times in tight photos. This is a horse a fan can really get behind and the thanks for that goes to the connections and to the horse himself.
Re: The Gelding Thread
History was made in the June 16 Windsor Castle Stakes (Eng-Listed) over five furlongs on good to firm turf on the first day of Royal Ascot, when 33-1 Strike The Tiger became the first ever American-trained horse to win at the meeting when holding on by a neck to beat Fratellino.

The winner, who was also gave jockey John Velazquez his first Ascot success, is trained by Wesley Ward, who also co-bred the gelding.
"I bred and raised the horse so to bring him over to win at Royal Ascot is something special, especially with my father and son being here," Ward said. ?He'll be heading home to race now. This is a beautiful place and I've been very impressed with everything that's gone on.

"This was a great race for me to win, but I know it is not one of the strongest here and hopefully my better 2-year-olds can go on and do well later this week. We have very few opportunities on turf at home, but when I did take him to gallop on grass at River Downs, a small track, he really stepped up--he's just a different horse on it. I think he?s going to be a special horse."

Velazquez said of his win: "You watch this meeting on TV, thinking you?d love to be there so to win here is very special. I was very proud of Strike The Tiger and at the end he kept giving me a little more, he was very game."

In other fallout from the Foster Day program, trainer Charlie Lopresti said he has yet to settle on a next race for Successful Dan, the 3-year-old gelding who remained unbeaten in three starts by outgaming Warrior's Reward in a sizzling duel in the Northern Dancer Stakes.

"I don't want to try any big fish quite yet," said Lopresti. "He's a gelding, so future stud value isn't a consideration. To be honest, I'd like to pick out some easier spots where hopefully we could keep him undefeated for a while."
Thanks for posting; the article also offers news on the geldings Chirac and Get Serious. In other news:
Charlie's Moment, the winner of the Grade 3 Laz Barrera Memorial Stakes last month, has been sold to the Maktoum family's Godolphin Racing, former trainer Walther Solis said Wednesday.

The deal was finalized last week, Solis said. Charlie's Moment was being trained for the $100,000 Affirmed Handicap at Hollywood Park on Saturday when the partnership that owns the 3-year-old gelding was approached, Solis said.

The purchase price was not disclosed. "They contacted me after the [Laz Barrera]," Solis said. "They liked the horse because he ran on all the synthetic tracks. I can't say how much they paid, but we couldn't say no."

A winner of 4 of 12 starts and $231,760, Charlie's Moment won his first graded stakes in the Barrera, which was run at seven furlongs. The Barrera was his ninth consecutive stakes appearance.

By Indian Charlie, Charlie's Moment has won three stakes: the Gateway to Glory Stakes on a conventional dirt surface at Fairplex Park last September, and the King Glorious Stakes on a Tapeta surface at Golden Gate Fields in February. Charlie's Moment has also raced on Santa Anita's Pro-Ride surface and Del Mar's Polytrack surface.
Re: The Gelding Thread
The benefit of a home track advantage has trainer Beau Greely dreaming of Hollywood Gold Cup glory for Tres Borrachos next month.

Best known for winning the Swaps Stakes on this track last year, Tres Borrachos rebounded from a six-race losing streak with a three-length win in an optional claimer at 1 1/16 miles on May 25.

In the $700,000 Gold Cup on July 11, Tres Borrachos could be the pacesetter in the Grade 1 race at 1 1/4 miles. With more than three weeks to the Gold Cup, the list of probable starters is still forming, but the first three finishers from the Grade 2 Californian Stakes last Saturday - Informed, Rail Trip, and Dakota Phone - are expected to be in the field.

"If he runs his last race back, he could be tough in there," Greely said. "It depends on how it sets up. He runs well when he's up close."

A winner of 3 of 17 starts and $435,622, Tres Borrachos was considered for the Godolphin Mile in Dubai in late March until he finished unplaced in a prep race at Santa Anita earlier that month.

He was later diagnosed with a sore back that kept him out of action for part of the spring. Much of that was forgotten when Tres Borrachos won on May 25. Joe Talamo was aboard for that race, and could ride Tres Borrachos in the Gold Cup, Greely said.

The trainer just wants to see the colt repeat his latest effort, hoping it will be the start of a trend.

"He gets consistent one way or another," Greely said. "Hopefully, this is the start of something big."
