Thread: St Trinians Retired

    St Trinians Retired

But after a five-furlong workout Sept. 24, the 6-year-old mare showed signs of wear that made retirement the best option.

“She showed up with some ankle fluid, and it’s the same ankle I’ve had trouble with in the past,” Mitchell said.

She'll be sold at the Keeneland fall sale.

I'm honestly relieved and glad they are doing the right thing by her. That eggbeater stride of hers made me worry for her safety, though it seemed to serve her just fine. I'm glad that she retired with one last win under her belt. What a gutsy, competitive little mare she has been on the track. Hopefully she can pass that same fire in the belly along to her foals.

Mitchell says he has but one picture on his wall of getting beat, and it's of Zenyatta surging past a determined ST late in the stretch to take the 2010 Vanity. That will be the shining moment that I'll always remember her for. Happy retirement, St. Trinny!

Me too. It was really difficult to watch the head-ons.

The head-on of her turning the corner into the home stretch in the Vanity sticks out in my mind. It almost looked as if she was scuttling sideways.

The girl sure had game, though.

yes, that was a great race for both of them, st trinians gave it everything she had and then some more.. since she seems to have an ongoing problem, i am glad they are retiring her.. because she isn't the kind of horse who will take care of herself in the heat of a race

Although I AM very happy that she got out healthy and with a game win as her swan song.

She was such a game pony, so that was the way to go out .. With a gritty, hard earned win.

Here's to a happy retirement for her ...

Sad to see her retired, but happy to see it's in her best interest. Have a good retirement St Trinians! Sure was a thrill to watch.

I swear, that mare was a sidewinder in a past life. Much love to one of my SoCal favorites, here's to a long and happy retirement!!

At least she went out on a winning note. Wonder who will end up buying her...

    Re: St Trinians Retired

What's to stop someone from buying her and returning her to the track? If they sell her as planned, at auction, it's a possibility.

    Re: St Trinians Retired

My bigger question is; who will she be bred to? Considering her, can we say, challenging stride movement, who might be the best candidate to straighten that out some? If she could throw good physical babies that retained her fierce competitive nature someone might have a real beast of a racehorse.

IRFF, it's possible she could be raced again for new owners, but she's six years old with what sounds like a going-bad ankle, and she moves like a sleek and nimble crab. IF they did, it would soon be at a lower-level and at the obvious risk of it not ending up well for St. T. Surely this mare (and the investment of purchasing her) would be better served by permanent retirement and hopefully finding her just the right baby daddy.

Dang. But I'm glad they retired her before she could injure herself with that wacky stride.. though it served her decently over the years.

Will be interesting to see who she's sold and bred to.

That is what worries me...just because one owner retired her does not mean that another will not run her if she is being sold...

Does anyone have any info on St. Trinian's since she is retired and I'm assuming that she has been bred? Who owns her now? Thank you.
