    Maryland Million

I didn't see a thread for this, so I apologize if I missed it. I know it was a gigantic day for racing yesterday, but I can't believe nobody noticed that this event was occurring! Most notably, Ben's Cat won the Turf Sprint via his usual come-from-behind style. Any chance he could get supplemented to the BC?

    Winners listed below:

Maryland Million Oaks - Brushed By Love
Maryland Million Turf Sprint Handicap - Ben's Cat
Maryland Million Lassie Stakes - Bluegrass Atatude
Maryland Million Distaff Handicap - Love That Dance
Maryland Million Distaff Starter Handicap - Call of a Lion
Maryland Million Nursery Stakes - Glib (defeating Jack in the Deck, who ran 4th)
Maryland Million Ladies' Stakes - Love's Blush
Maryland Million Sprint Handicap - Sloane Ranger
Maryland Million Turf Stakes - Pocket Patch
    Maryland Million Classic - Eighttofasttocatch
Maryland Million Starter Handicap - Shordawatyadrink

yesterday was a great day at laurel, despite the weather. full fields, lots of entertainment, and it appeared to be a good crowd. i loved seeing the legendary jocks - Laffit Pincay, Pat Day, Angel Cordero, Steve Cauthen and Jean Cruguet. i believe hrtv carried the races live. anyway, it was a lot fun and good for maryland. as for ben's cat, he just got up for the win. personally, i don't think he'd be that competitive in the BC.

He won by a length with his ears pricked and don't forget, this was 5 1/2f, not 6f. He's won further, but I think his best distance is right there. He does have the disadvantage of having to come from the back and weave his way through, but he runs best when he can get to the outside and when he does, he rarely loses.

The turf course was very very wet too. He doesn't seem to care about the footing. I'd like to see him try the BC. Jeremy certainly would like to see him go, but then he's a bit biased. He's won the money to go. I hate that Leatherbury thinks someone else should put up the money to enter.

Who hasn't Ben's Cat beaten? Granted, I don't know what horses are out in California that he hasn't faced, but he's defeated Chamberlain Bridge, Hero's Reward, Regally Ready, Cardashi, and just about everyone he's faced with the exception of El Churruca (who seems to have disappeared off the face of the earth...?).

I really hope Ben's Cat gets to go. I havent' watched yesterday's race yet, but I thought he showed improvement in the two prior. He is an incredible horse who seems to have defied the odds repeatedly.

I am a bit biased towards PSC babies so it was nice to see that Sloane Ranger got a win as well.

I thought Ben's Cat looked really good as usual.

Made it to the track yesterday, I was high on Glib in the 2 year old race and he didn't disappoint. 7th length winner in his first race and a commanding victory yesterday, I have him in my virtual stable now.

Eighttofasttocatch was impressive winning the classic, Regal Solo made a nice returning finishing 2nd in the Sprint.

I wonder if King wil give any thought to Ben's Cat in the DeFrancis Dash..he is solid on dirt as well.

What I find interesting is that 3 of Not For Love's Maryland Million winners were out of Broad Brush mares.

Didn't Broad Brush start out in Maryland before standing in Kentucky? That would explain the mares being so available.

Ben's Cat takes next step toward BC with Maryland Million win

The Jim Stable's Ben's Cat launched his patented late burst to win the $100,000 Maryland Million Turf Sprint at Laurel Park for the second straight year on Saturday.

I don't think so,..but Broad Brush's owner Mr Myerhoff was Md based, so that may explain the BB mares

Two of the three were bred by Bowman & Higgins and Richard Golden, so there's the Northview connection. I think there's a real possibility that one, they may have had a share in Broad Brush or two, that Richard Small had a share and that B&H used it a time or two. I know they've been listed as breeders together.

Love That Dance is the third NFL-BB winner. She was bred in NJ by her owner John Petrini so I don't see a Meyerhoff connection there. He may have bred his mare or purchased her at some point.
