Was it the lack of speed (Pleasant Colony 2nd broodmare sire) as I seem to remember Urbane did have some good speed herself, and was able to stretch it a route of ground...

It'll be interesting to see what they do with his full brother Worldly when he retires...

Another example of an AP Indy stallion out of a multiple G1-winning mare who has decreased tremendously in value is Full Mandate. Hartley DeRenzo dropped his stud fee from 5K to 1.5K in the past couple of years. Anybody know what he'll stand for in 2012 (or to where he'll ship?)?

Journeyman will announce JP's and the other stallions' 2012 fees soon, but surely I can't see them going over 3500? He's strictly a sprinter's pedigree, and there are many options in FL sprint races for FL breeders, but if they want over 5K for him, I just don't see small breeders risking it. He does have Encino as the 2nd broodmare sire, who's related to Storm Cat's dam Terlingua, and a full to the BC Mile champ and chef-de-race Royal Academy, but JP is pure speed on speed. It was amazing they were able to stretch him out as they tried to press him on that TC trail, but Hofmans knew better.

Why is Indy different than any other sire in that not all of his sons are successful? Fortunately, several of his sons and grandsons are. I didn't expect Suave to be that good and I certainly didn't expect Full Mandate, who was not a good racehorse.

When you only breed 3 mares this year, it was inevitable.

Musket Man is moving from Vinery Florida to Elite Thoroughbreds in Louisiana (his sire stood there as well). Fee: $2,500.

He got 25 mares, I guess that was quite a lot less than they expected or maybe they would have kept him in training?

    Re: Stallion news

Maybe some of these really low stud fees will sink in to the owners of 3 & 4 year olds and convince them to keep their colts in training, show they have the class to run, run well and run often before running off to the shed.

I talked to Crystal today at Journeyman. JP will be standing for 3500 with a multiple mare discount. The photographer that went out called and asked Crystal if it was Successful Appeal. She had no clue who he was. Hes a good looking colt standing 15.3. Awesome of Course will surprisingly be standing for the same 5k, a GREAT value in my book. But she said he will fill up fast

I'm kinda amused that the article's comment on Dance to Destiny's dam was that she was a half sister to Smart Strike. Well, yeah, but did she do anything else?

(I think that makes Dance With Ravens Dance Smartly's only son left in NA--the others have all been exported. As far as I know, Sam-Son Farms still owns all three of her daughters, unless I missed one showing up at a sale recently.)

I noticed that too. Especially after on Tranquil Manner they mention Composure is a grade 1 winner. Pretty sure Dance Smartly's accomplishments on the track deserve at least a little mention right?
