Wow some really big fields this year. Looks like the turf course will
come up pretty soft. Hard to say who I like just yet without pp's but for the home
team I'll take Kara's Orientation in the big dance

I love Arctic Cosmos in the Canadian International. On his best day Treasure Beach is the only horse that is up to his class. Treasure Beach may actually be a better horse but I'm concerned that Treasure Beach may not have sufficiently recovered from his stateside trip and run in the Arc. He also may need softer ground than he'll get.

Arctic Cosmos has only run once this year but he certainly showed enough in the Cumberland Lodge to suggest that he's ready to fire here. Not usually sent to the front he was asked to make the pace in his first start off the layoff no doubt to get the most out of the race. He stayed on well and is coming into this race in good form. I should suspect a return to near his best when he was capable of beating horses like Joshua Tree, Rewilding and Snow Fairy. He should be able to lay handy and swoop by with a well timed ride.

The longshot I like in here is Simmard. He's definitely one of those horses that wins less often than he should but he consistently performs at a high level and earned a career high figure in his last race. He'll be a fat price because he doesn't often win but I look for him to run better than expected. 5 of the last 12 winners of this race were more than 10/1 at the off. Just 1 favorite won in that stretch and this year with 16 entrants it's certainly a tough and interesting race.

A very tough race and has to believe that the BC Turf Sprint favorite comes out of this contest. Bated Breath obviously has wonderful form in Europe and should be heavily backed for this race. It's a positive for him that he likes fast ground and if it wasn't for Dream Ahead who recently knocked off Goldikova he'd have a pair of G-1 wins under his belt this year. He can easily win but I'm also not discounting the locals.

I think that Regally Ready and Right One are both good enough to beat Bated Breath if things go well. Regally Ready at one point was the hottest thing going in this division winning 5 of 6 races. He has suffered reverses in his last two but I think that this course will suit him better than the relatively tight quarters at Parx. I looks for him to fire again and get back to his best.

Right One is a very talented horse who perhaps just lacks the stamina to sustain a bid going 8f. 6f may seem on the short side for him but it should sharpen his rally. Win or lose I expect this guy to be flying at the finish and being there or thereabouts. I like Leparoux for this type of ride. He's a major threat.

To me this race is wide open and really the only horse that would surprise me is Mekong Melody. I'm quite sure that several fillies will run badly and several will run well but it's almost a dice roll to figure out which belong in each group. The major variable here is how all the Europeans will like the North American conditions. A couple of them are even getting lasix for the first time so that adds another variable.

I like to look for Europeans that at least have some firm ground form and for a 10f race I want to see the ability to go beyond 8f effectively but I'm not going to go for an all out stayer that needs a European 12f because this certainly isn't that kind of test.

I'm tepidly in favor of Adventure Seeker. I think she's been ambitiously placed from early on in her career and to me that's a sign of connections confidence. She has not yet won a Graded Stakes but she wasn't well beaten in that company. I think there's improvement in her still as she's relatively unexposed.

The favorite Dream Peace also has obvious merits but I don't think the gap between her and my primary selection is as vast as the price difference. I see them as very similar in ability but Dream Peace is simply a few steps further down the road of progression.

I think that Dyna Waltz is the best of the home team but she'll be hard pressed to crack more than the superfecta. Strawberrydaiquiri is a horse I've followed in Europe for a while and she's a pretty classy sort. She's an old pro who probably doesn't want to go this far and didn't fare particularly well in Dubai which has a more American type course but I do think she's actually the best of the Europeans. If she stays well and handles the course she wins this so I have to have her included in the mix

Re: 10/16 (WO): Canadian International, E.P. Taylor, Neartic (G1's)

E.P. Taylor, Nearctic come up contentious

The two Grade 1 events on Sunday's Canadian International undercard, the C$1 million E.P. Taylor and the C$500,000 Nearctic, both lured highly-competitive fields. Both also have Breeders' Cup implications, for the Filly & Mare Turf and Turf Sprint, respectively. But the similarities end there. While European shippers account for eight of 11 distaffers entered in the 1 1/4-mile E.P. Taylor, only three Europeans have signed on for the six-furlong Nearctic.

Top three from last year's Canadian International renew rivalry

Joshua Tree, Mores Wells and Redwood, who served up a climactic three-way photo in the Grade 1 Canadian International a year ago, are among a record 16-strong field lined up for Sunday's C$1.5 million renewal at Woodbine. Last year's trifecta is just part of a massive European invasion, which also includes the Aidan O'Brien-trained Treasure Beach and John Gosden's well-regarded Arctic Cosmos, in this potential stepping stone to the Breeders' Cup Turf.

Thrilling finish to the EP Taylor. SO happy for Miss Keller and her connections!! I didn't think she liked the soft going, but apparently she wasn't too bothered! Good for her!!

Great betting race. Currently three co-favorites at 4/1 and another at 9/2. Lots of double digit odds to go on top of those. Should be some nice exactas, tri's and supers.

Re: 10/16 (WO): Canadian International, E.P. Taylor, Neartic (G1's)

Very tough race. All the Euro's looks dangerous as do as those that hit the board last year. I always wanted Rahystrada to go 12f, and he liked it last out when they finally tried it, so I give him a shot to run into the tri or super with a nice finish at a good price. Simmard is another longshot who could close into the exotics.

Quest Peace certainly did nothing wrong last time and should be the top choice off that race, with Artic Cosmos not far behind. Treasure Beach was terrible in the Arc, so hard to judge current form, must bounce back to top form after shipping and not as long break. Could go either way.
