And the Marathon wins the title of most irrelevant BC race. A sign of the times, I suppose.

The '09 BC Marathon was one I'll never forget! The nine-year-old Cloudy's Knight lost by a nose hair ... don't even remember the name of the horse that won.

ETA: Okay, had to look it up! Man of Iron was the winner .... by a nose.

ETA: YouTube ... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=blANHNS3lp0 ... I still enjoy watching this one! CK was retired last year about this time.

Re: Breeders’ Cup on ABC, ESPN, ESPN2 and ESPN3

2013 will be the end of ESPN's contract with the BC. We can kiss it good bye as we know it at that point. ESPN has been doing everything possible in the last few years to distance themselves from horse racing. What happened to their 130 hours of broadcasting yearly? From a 2006 article.

"We're looking for new, creative ways to broadcast racing to a growing fan base," D.G. Van Clief Jr., National Thoroughbred Racing Association commissioner and Breeders' Cup president, said of the ESPN contract. "One of the key points is a close creative partnership. We're going to have true, ongoing dialogue about the product."
"This is an exciting day for us, folks," said Shapiro. "The Breeders' Cup isn't only a property for us. We are fans of horse racing, and we air 130 hours of programming annually. The Breeders' Cup is an evolutionary step for us."The 2006 Breeders' Cup, to be held at Churchill Downs, will be broadcast during a seven-hour program from noon to 7 p.m. The program will be produced by ESPN. Currently, the NBC program spans five hours. ESPN and ABC Sports will air five two-hour telecasts from June through October featuring major stakes leading to the Breeders' Cup.

I just noticed they haven't assigned anyone yet to do the trophy interviews. Not that it makes a difference.

I am, and have been, listening to the World Series on espnradio.com; they are doing quite a few promos for the BC. Tonight's pushes Chantal as well as the Mo vs. Grace matchup.

Heh- when I was at CD in 2006 for the BC, my seats were horrible- I could not see or hear a thing. I wandered down trackside for a good view (I was just past the finish), and there was an ESPN camera set up at the outside rail, with some plastic tape stretched across to restrict people from getting into the shot. Between races (there was nothing going on), I stretched forward and bent the plastic tape a bit, and the ESPN cameraman went ballistic. Within a few minutes there were 5 uniformed cops on hand to keep an eye on the 20 of us in the area. The ESPN dude kept pointing me out and telling the cops to keep an eye on me, cuz I was clearly trouble. Oh yeah, a 50+ woman with a pro camera, I'm a gangbanger in disguise. The cops liked being there for the great view, and we became buddies. Thing was, if the ESPN camera had been mounted a foot more toward the track, which would have been no problem, the crowd wouldn't have been an issue at all and we could have had direct rail access, just like we should on a big day.

Why in the world isn't ESPN3 carrying this race online? Surely TVG isn't claiming exclusivity!

Is anyone else getting a different programming lineup during ABC's coverage of the BC? My DVR is saying that there's a football game on from 12:00-3:30. I love college football as much as the next person, but I'm still a horse racing fan at heart and would hate to see the races get shunted aside for yet more football, especially since the scheduled game looks incredibly uninteresting. If this is, in fact, what's going to air during that time, I guess I'll have to watch the live stream on my work computer instead of wasting space recording that broadcast block.

Welcome to Football Saturday. The local here isn't showing the BC either until ESPN comes on. They do the same thing every year

I wouldn't have minded quite so much if they were showing a decent game. I'm almost insulted.

I hate what the BC and the programming schedule has become. How in the heck do they think fans could watch when we can't even get it on tv channels we have?

This stinks. I *did* watch on the BC site last night, but watching it on my pc at my desk and listening to their crap music in between races just isn't the same at all.

I added RTN to my Dish Network subscription because I got sick of the TVG gabfest and showing Monmouth on tape delay so much, so yesterday I put on the Churchill feed to watch the races, and it was produced by TVG. All they do is gab in between races and play that stupid music.
I don't need talking heads to pick the same losers that I pick, thank you.
