Re: Profiles: TBC handicappers - join in

    name: Stephanie

    home racetrack: Assiniboia Downs

year of your first horse racing wager: 1997

strengths: picking out a possible longshot winner by watching them in the paddock

weaknesses: 2 yr olds, usually I will just pick a good 2 yr old trainer

most important handicapping factor is: for me how they have done in the previous few races, what distance they are racing, and at assiniboia often look for that speed horse

least important handicapping factor is: don't put much stock in equipment

your favorite wagering pool: lately has been win tickets, but will play exactor, and daily double

favorite handicapping book / author: don't know that I have one just yet

most important handicapping factor is: the running style that makes the horse feel the most confident

least important handicapping factor is: weight -- the "handicap" division as it stands is a joke [i am a HUGE fan of the old, actually functional handicap division and i wish that people wouldn't be such weenies about horses carrying weight]

    name: karen]

    home racetrack: emerald downs

year of your first horse racing wager: can't remember but it would be right around 1961-63

strengths: identifying hot trainers and to a lesser extent trainer /jockey combos.

weaknesses: betting horses i am fond of no matter how they have been running

most important handicapping factor is: if i am not familiar with any horse in the race it would be the trainer.

least important handicapping factor: not interested in beyers or speed figures

your favorite wagering pool: w/p/s but it would take fondness for a horse to get a win bet out of me

favorite handicapping book / author: none

The Handicapping Forum can be improved by: i will go with TKS never leaves again and add that Kennedy never leaves in the first place
i do think it is hard to get started in the handicapping section because of a fear of butting in even if the contests sound fun.. so for that reason i like the idea of a sticky in racing (just before the weekend) that encourages one and all to try their luck in the contests for fun..no experience needed. the way TKS is putting the contest in the thread for the various races is really good.

Re: Profiles: TBC handicappers - join in

    name: Jared

home racetrack: Woodbine, although I've moved to Regina I still consider the Toronto oval my home track.

year of your first horse racing wager: 1996

strengths:Â*Not sure that I have any specific strengths. I suppose isolating pertinent statistics or seeing qualities in specific horses that makes them good candidates for specific races months down the road. Some of my favorite plays come from identifying what a horses preferences are then stalking them and waiting until they get that preference in the conditions. I love 2yo races, they're likely my strongest subset and I also like Turf races however the data I keep on myself indicates that I'm actually much better on the dirt.

weaknesses: Claiming races, I've just not got any sort of handle on cheap races. Also looking to force plays when the best move is just to watch.

most important handicapping factor is: Trainer patterns, specific horses suitability to a races conditions (ie track, surface, distance)

least important handicapping factor is: There are hundreds of ways to win and even more ways to lose. What may be unimportant to me is a key factor for someone else. I think all information is useful to someone therefore it is hard to identify one thing that is the least important.

your favorite wagering pool: Win Pool

favorite handicapping book / author: Betting Maidens/Dan Illman

The Handicapping Forum can be improved by: Simply more participation. More analysis and selections, not just within the contests.

    name: Walter

home racetrack: While I'll always think of Belmont as home, I guess now it's Arlington. Unless you count the Midwest Horse Fair

year of your first horse racing wager: 1974

strengths: Never betting my beer money

    weaknesses: Sometimes betting my carfare

most important handicapping factor is: The horse I'm betting on absolutely must have four legs

least important handicapping factor is: Whether or not my horse poops before the race

your favorite wagering pool: YMCA. Oh, sorry, I thought it said wading pool. Now that I've put my glasses on, Exacta

    Name: Kris

Home racetrack: Epsom I suppose is closest

Year of your first horse racing wager: 2000 or so

Strengths: Finding 'sleepers' between the longshots (is how I make most money ),

Weaknesses: Quite a lazy handicapper (have no time for too much evaluating), sentimental favourites

Most important handicapping factor is: Seeing the horse gallop to the post / their odds vs my odds (say when a horse is 25/1 when in my mind it shouldn't be much longer than 10/1) )

Least important handicapping factor is: Weight

Your favorite wagering type: Win tickets if shorter than 12/1, each way if longer odds

Favorite handicapping book / author: Don't read them

The Handicapping Forum can be improved by: Me having more time to enjoy it! Always too busy busy busy. Must make more of an effort

    name: Joan

    home racetrack: Canterbury

year of your first horse racing wager: 1979 (Hialeah, sigh)

    strengths:Â* pedigree handicapping

    weaknesses:Â* pedigree handicapping

most important handicapping factor is: pace, class

least important handicapping factor is: weight

your favorite wagering pool: since I am just learning to seriously handicap, I'm concentrating on picking winners

    favorite handicapping book / author:Â* Â*Davidowitz, Beyer

The Handicapping Forum can be improved by: Would like more threads that share handicapper's experience.Â* Maybe dissect a race with people stating why they pick certain horses.Â* Also would be good would be threads on how to bet, not just why.Â* Money Management is how you say it, I guess.
