Breeders' Cup sees second-highest two-day attendance as Championships wrap up

A two-day attendance total for the 2011 Breeders' Cup World Championships of 105,820 is the second highest two-day total, 7 percent less than last year's record-setting total attendance of 114,353 that was fueled in part by the legendary race mare Zenyatta's bid to remain undefeated, Breeders' Cup officials announced after the conclusion of Saturday's races at Churchill Downs.

A decrease is expected since Zenyatta wasn't there. Regardless this is good news.

Looking at the people in the stands it seemed like a lot more than just a 9,000 person deficit...

They must have had a lot of people buy general admission tickets...

On such a nice day, it might not be too far fetched an idea. I know standing in the paddock was actually quite lovely on Derby day when the sun was out and shining, and I would've loved seeing all those horses up close.
And listening to some big out a' town jasper, hearing him tell about horse-race gamblin'.
Not a wholesome trottin' race, no, but a race where they sit down right on a horse!
Like to see some stuck-up jockey boy sittin' on Dan Patch?

True and there was access to the races supposed to be provided this year as well so that might have encouraged others to come.
