What a sturdy, hard-trying old fellow. I guess that monkey is keeping him happy and content. Hope he has another great year!

Happy to hear this. I hope "Musket" repays his connections in spades. Of course, it would be easy to say that he's only running because there's no opportunity for him at stud, but who cares. If he's happy being a racehorse, then more power to all of them.
What is it about single-toed ungulates running around an oval for approximately 90 seconds that inspires people to bet billions of dollars and devote their entire lives to the activity?

    From Brisnet

Musketier (Acatenango) will make a title defense against eight rivals in Friday's Grade 3, $150,000 Elkhorn Stakes at Keeneland. Last year's champion turf horse in Canada, Musketier opened his 10-year-old season with a third in the Grade 2 Mac Diarmida Stakes February 26 and will make his second start of 2012 with new rider Jose Lezcano. The Roger Attfield-trained gray horse posted a 1 1/4-length score in the 1 1/2-mile turf affair last year. Newsdad (Arch), a two-length winner of Grade 2 Pan American Stakes March 24, is a major contender. Other challengers include Simmard (Dixieland Band), winner of the Mac Diarmida and third in the Pan American; Point of Entry (Dynaformer), a recent allowance victor over Keeneland's turf; and Grade 2 runner-up Center Divider (Giant's Causeway).

We will be at the track that day! I love Musketier and hope to see him win on Friday. Hopefully I can get some nice pictures of him as well.

Good for him! And a shot at winning stakes races every start he gets! Now THAT is a racehorse!

The Elkhorn is a really nice field, with a couple of tough customers in there - but,
as always, I'm going with Musketier. He is the man! My confidence in him is
probably only exceeded by Mr. Attfield - and Musketier himself!

Musketier came in 4th. Forgot this race was yesterday ... thought it was today.

They aren't the best pictures, but here are a few from Friday. I am currently editing all our pictures from the Keeneland trip, including shots of Union Rags schooling on Wednesday and Derby workers from Saturday morning.

Singspiel coming up in about 6 minutes... go get em Musketier. Been following this horse since he shipped in from France 5 years ago; hoping he's back in the winner's circle today.

Yes!! Musketier by a long nose... and that was after he had traffic trouble (in a compact field no less) going into the first turn. Good to see the ol' boy back on top.

Re: Musketier likely to run next year at age 10

In the post-race interview with Attfield the interviewer (don't know her name) said they were researching what the oldest graded stakes winning horse was, because it may possibly be Musketier at age 10.

I feel like I've seen one or two other 10yos win graded stakes: I know Evening Attire won a listed stakes at (I believe) 10, and possibly The Tin Man...or maybe Johar ??

    Anyone know?

What an incredible race. For those of you that missed it, it's well well worth it to go back and watch that stretch run. One of the best races of the year made even better because it was two old warriors battling it out. Great stuff.

Bravo to Musketier - and to Simmard too! What a stretch run and what a way to cap off the weekend. Now he can go back to playing with his beloved monkey (obviously a good luck charm). Way to go boys....

No graded stakes, but a couple of years back, the then 12-year-old Caracciola won a Listed stakes at York. He also became the oldest horse ever to win at Royal Ascot that same year btw.
